If I want an iPhone but I already have an AT&T contract and a phone, is it as simple as buying an iPhone from the Apple store, and swapping your SIM card from your old phone to your iPhone? Or do I have to deal with extra fees for switching to another phone in the middle of the contract cycle?

They'll have a new SIM card ready for you, and they can transfer all your data to your new iPhone easily and in a matter of minutes. They'll also charge you a prorated amount regardless where you are in your billing cycle. Adding the $30 data plan is automatic by AT&T. If they charge you the $18 activation fee, you can get that taken off your bill with a simple phone call to AT&T...Good luck!
