the battery is the problem, but since it's under a special warranty condition, at the same price of the battery replacement, he will replace the whole phone (which normally would cost 280€). ok, but the rest of the phone works fine!! why would i want to replace the whole phone?

So let me get this straight - if he replaced just the battery for 80 Euros, you'd be happy, but if he replaces the entire phone for the same 80 Euros, you're pissed off? Zero logic here.

Your phone is old dude, deal with it and move on. Consumer electronics with batteries don't last forever. Li-ion batteries have a finite life span, of which yours is pretty much at the end of its own with 900 cycles on it. Swelling is normal for old batteries at the end of their lives.

You should consider yourself lucky you can get an entire new phone for 80 Euros.

If you want to continue to be ultra cheap, there is a $10 prepaid plastic pile of junk with your name on it at the big box store. Your iPhone probably won't even get more than a max of like 1 iOS update anyway, should Apple replace it for free at that time too?

nope, you misunderstood me. i would never want a battery replacement for 80€, since i could replace that myself for 20€. and "new phone" is not really true, it's a refurb and a 4 years old model. i don't like spending that amount of money for an old device.

not everyone has infinite cash, though that's maybe hard to grasp in an apple forum :p jk

The deal they offered was pretty good. But, with new phones coming out it you might do well to wait and see what happens to the prices of existing phones. It's probably time to upgrade anyway.

Then just replace it with a cheap battery from China, but you get what you pay for.

They replaced my entire iPhone 5 for free about 5 months ago because of the swollen battery

Regardless of whatever deal they offered, I just wouldn't feel comfortable having a bloated battery in my pocket where it may blow by @ss off, or charging at home and cause a house fire. The safety implications there are just too great to take a stand with what Apple may or may not do for you.

$80 to replace your entire four year old phone with a new one is a pretty damn good deal. I'm perplexed as to why you thought otherwise.

It may be an older phone, but iPhone 5 is still very usable, and you could probably get a few more $$ for it reselling it because the condition on a refurbished replacement that's only a few months old is far better than on a phone with four years of use on it.
