Does any of your input end up on their servers?

As full access is not needed it seems not very possible for them to upload your words. Anyway, for sensitive information, I would switch back to the default keyboard.

I have yet to use this but the apple keyboard sucks since they added the period next to the space bar when you search with Google chrome.

Thoughts on swype vs swift?

I've tried swift on my 6+, but ultimately didn't like it much, because it's difficult to swipe across the entire screen one handed.

Been using Swiftkey for a while... just downloaded Swype to try out. My first couple impressions:

1) I like that Swype has five themes to choose from. Swiftkey has two. I assume they will add more.

2) Swype has a settings area to see your personal dictionary. I assume this is where you can see what words you have told it to learn and remember. I have not seen where you can view and edit those in Swiftkey.

3) Swiftkey lets you choose two different languages... to use at the SAME time. So for people like myself that routinely type in two languages, no need to switch back and forth. It can auto correct and recognize swyped words for both languages. Swype requires you to press and hold keyboard to switch between languages.

I downloaded it the day I updated my phone to iOS8. I love swype.

But I would love it even more if the stupid messages app didn't freeze-crash nearly every time I try to use it!

Messages app crashes for me frequently too while using Swiftkey (well, it just stops letting me enter anything, forcing me to quit app). So i assume this means that its a system/message app problem, not the keyboard itself.

Love it. I think a lot of the problems users have with this app, is, they think they have to be too "perfect" with the Swypes.

Their accuracy is seriously impressive. To type "Hello, how are you?" I can basically swype my fingers all over the place, sometimes going to wrong letters, and it STILL gets it. You don't have to swype sloooooowly and carefully over each letter in your word. Try it, try being messy with it and watch how it's still accurate. *That's* how it saves you time.

If you're good with asdf jkl; and you can type average or better to average, this keyboard should save you time. Plus it allows normal typing too. So, I leave it on for instances where I want to reply with just my thumb. I can type full sentences holding the phone and swypin with my thumb, not even looking at the phone (because I know where all of the letters are / have been with iOS for such a long time).

This keyboard is miles above SwiftKey as well, IMO. So happy this was added to iOS8.

Tried alternate keyboards and they all were buggy. Fleksy became my go to, but the autocorrect was weak. The default Apple keyboard just works and is smooth as silk. I do wish they would take a page from fleksy and incorporate the swipe backwards gesture to delete quickly.

I'm a bit put off by the delay all these third party keyboards seem to have between the time you tap a text field and when they actually appear.

Awkward, sluggish, cumbersome... survived 5 minutes on my phone. Glad it was free.

I almost wonder if this is why Apple is giving Swype away for free: We try it for free, discover it is troublesome, conclude that all other third-party keyboards are also troublesome*, and stick with the default iOS keyboard.

(*Even if the reason they are troublesome is because of bugs in iOS 8 itself.)

When I log into my banks app, the default keyboard is used as it should be.

I login on my banks app on my Android using Swiftkey, I got a warning that the keyboard may not be secure.

At least on iOS we can control whether an app gets full access or not. On Android, I don't think that's possible unless I am missing something.

SwiftKey has been and is still free, so not much need to do anything with Swype if that is what they wanted for some strange reason.

I really like Swype although i find it odd that you need to give (temporary) full access to download another language then the 5 which are in the app.

I had to download Dutch (and turn on full access temporary) and then turned full access off again and could started to use it without any problems. It works great on my iPad Mini2.

The iPad version of Path Input (yup non-universal unfortunately) is now (temporary) free it also has a number keypad next to the 'smaller' keyboard on an iPad. I suggest you also give that a try if you don't like Swype on your iPad. Swiftkey can't even be used on the iPad if you want to use gestures/swipe. Path Input doesn't need Full access to work (not even to select another language).

I do hope that Swype and Path Input will add a similar feature that you can use two languages at once like Swiftkey can.

This is my issue. I downloaded them on launch and refused to give the keyboards full access to my info. Turns out the keyboards don't really work without full access. So I am happy to continue working with the default keyboards for now.

I pretty much gave up on these keyboards anyways. I couldn't keep them active, frequently defaulting back to the standard OS keyboard. Sometimes, they'd jam up whatever application tried to open it. They didn't listen to the keyboard shortcuts.

I mean, I dig the swyping, but after a few times of trying to swipe the standard iOS keyboard because for some unknown reason, it was now the active keyboard, I just gave up entirely and uninstalled it. It's an iOS thing, not a Swype thing.

I like Swype ever since its in beta stage on Android. It takes a little getting used to especially to add capitalisation and punctuation marks, they used to have those visits to help you understand the little tricks it has under the hood.. So if you're having trouble adapting, some video tutorial may do wonders

This app of the week made me update from 7.1.2 to 8.1 on my iPhone, glad I've waited for it to be free

I hate the fact it has a non-standard look to it and there are weird interface quirks when loading the keyboard. Sometimes it doesn't do the slide-up animation / instantly appears. Or the animaton stutters. In all cases it doesn't load as smooth and fast as the build-in keyboard.

IMO the 3rd party keyboard experience on iOS is pretty bad. <- smiley always reminds me of Cartman lol

Tried it. Didn't like it. Deleted.

Yeah... I feel like it's a lot slower than the native keyboard. It's interesting and different, but I don't feel like I'm actually typing any faster. The auto-correct, in particular, is utter garbage. But without the auto-correct, it doesn't seem to work at all.

Does anyone know how to get keyboard click sounds? I went into the settings on the keyboard and have it enabled but still no clicks.

almost paid money for it earlier to try it out atleast , glad it's app of the week

swype seems much more accurate than swiftkey IMO.

i bought flesky but for the life of me can't figure it out.
