Welp. I guess I better go out and buy a bunch of new light bulbs.

It's a shame to replace my CFL bulbs. I've been using the same ones for the past 8 years. The whole "not burning out" thing has been a treat.

So this is how light manufactures will get us to replace them? We have to keep upgrading them to get smarter lights?

put in any LED bulb and you will see how poorly your CFL bulbs are doing. I replaced mine and the LEDS are so much brighter and cleaner light and are not all black. Plus WIFI LEDS are very fun.

The main effect will be turning all lights OFF during commercial break so no one dares to go to the bathroom and rather watch the ads :)

Very funny! Give it a few years and we won't be laughing though - TV-controlled lights, thermostat and wind generators, all for a more immersive experience.

Global warming has reached its highest this year. Your heating and lighting system will now switch off. Go to bed early. Contraceptive myst will now be sprayed. Inhale deeply. Save energy. Love from your government.

:)

Thats actually really cool, shame only a few people will be able to use it

i agree on the coolness. I have 4 bulbs, two in the bedroom and two in the living room. I love them (even though they are super expensive). I have been waiting for home kit or something to begin integrating them with with other things to really jutify the investment. This could be an example of a bright future (pun intended).

However, the seperate app I dont like. Also, its a shame that it is for a channel that requires cable since I cut the cord a while back (giving me the extra cash to pay for the bulbs :) ).

I just have the 3-bulb starter kit and never bought any additional ones, just because they're so expensive. I'm hoping that someday they will come down in price to a more reasonable one.

Actually, the head of the network has recently addressed this. He admitted they've conceded the hardcore Science Fiction stuff to other networks and will be pushing hard to get quality Sci-Fi programming in the near future.

I'm admittedly skeptical, but they seem to be serious about it.

The recent mini-series Ascension is a proof point.

It's the Philips Ambilight TV on steroids!

Sounds like an interesting experiment, but I think it'll just be distracting.

this makes me wonder how the Sync app works. And would it work with downloaded files. If iTunes posts the premiere for free I might have try it. just for giggles

you can get a lot of apps that control the hue we have ones that'll sync the lights to music.

if you don't need color they are only 30.00 I have been using the GE link bulbs only 15.00 but they need another hub. but the hub I use will link to the hue hub and give me more programming options. but the bulbs sometimes don't always turn on or off on a programmed setting the Hue always work.

I can't say that I need colors per se, but I like using the scenes. I have plenty of standard LED white bulbs already, that do not work with the Hue system.

the colors are cool. thats why I got them for my blind life who loves colors. but then I got into home automation and now all my lights are LEDS and turn on and off as needed with no switches involved.

No one is holding a gun to your head to get them at all. But you could always swap out a few lights and use the replaced ones for other spots. That is if you really feel you just have to get hue lights.

I downloaded the Sync app and answered my own question. The app listens for audio cues. So yes it should work with a downloaded file. So if there is a free pilot I'll give it a try
