It appears that this app has value in a niche market and writing about it was not a sin but maybe more readers would understand this if it were better explained in the article.
They need to justify to you why their articles aren’t sinful?

It might be easier if readers just worked from the assumption that MR isn't curated for them personally...

I agree and with most articles on MR, it's easy to spot. I have no want for a handmade wooden iPhone stand but I'm not upset that it's there. The title was pretty clear so I skipped that article.

I wonder if you see the map on the iPhone screen; as well as, the CarPlay screen. It's really annoying how Google Maps & Waze hides it on your iPhone when connected to CarPlay.

It sure is. You're forced to use bluetooth streaming so you can see the map on the phone

Can you elaborate on this? I feel this is the only possible advantage over Google Maps, which has excellent offline maps.

You mean beside it's not a Google trade your soul for free app? It may be impossible to understand for most Americans, but any stuff from Google is so insanely anti privacy that it is not even an option for usage. It could feature the best maps in the universe and still remain a no-use app.

How does this company stay in business? There are so many good free options like Apple Maps and Google Maps for navigation. I looked into using this with a car without CarPlay and couldn't believe how expensive it was for the entire US maps.
Honda’s without CarPlay use the app.
[doublepost=1539387193][/doublepost]More options is great for consumers!

Plus this app allows me to download an entire country of maps.

... I don't understand this argument. Just create a fake account and use it to login. There are no privacy concerns then. It's not like where you visit is tied to your email or banks or browsing history etc.

You know, I was going to defend Sygic, as I kinda like their interface (it is much smoother than some other GPS apps, like the now-removed Navigon, and it works a lot better on older devices), until I noticed that this is NOT their main GPS app.

They already had a GPS app, and charged a ton for the maps. Then they came out with another GPS app, and charge a ton for the same maps.

This other GPS app gets CarPlay update, but not their other(s). Why not update the other GPS app(s) that people already paid for?

I was excited to try out Sygic GPS in my car until I found out that I have the "wrong" one.

I have Sygic's "GPS Navigation & Maps", and they added CarPlay to "Navigation GPS & Maps"
[doublepost=1539404408][/doublepost]It will be added to the other version of their app. I contacted Sygic directly and they told me it will work on both versions. It appears this version has been released first, so hopefully the other version won’t be too far behind.

Sadly it is not so easy. Google has gotten very good in tracking you even with such measures. You should see all the traffic Little Snitch blockes on my Google-server-blocking-rules alone all the time.

I'm guessing those trashing Sygic simply have not used it. It's not a junk app.

I travel frequently so having offline maps is a blessing. For example I was recently in Malaysia and South America and using the usual suspects would have cost me $100's in data costs. With Sygic, I just prepared ahead and downloaded the navigation maps for the countries I was in. I immediately then have driving and walking navigation (which is also brilliant for taxi rides in unknown cities).

I also find their lane navigation far superior to Google and Apple.

How did you work out it's a sponsored post? It's nothing of the sort!!!! Check the links. There is no affiliate ID on any of them, and I rather like the fact that MR have highlighted this change for me. It's industry news.

Seriously people....a little common sense.....

I’m about to download and give it a try. Does it have the photos of intersections on highways? Basically when you get close it actually shows a picture of the intersection and the lane you need to be in?

I wouldn't be so prejudge right now.

It is possible that it is completely Apple's fault and the update for other apps stuck in the review process.

I dont understand this too.
I think they will offer it in all apps soon.

They should simplify their apps. Too many apps confuse the costumers.

Regarding to navigation, they are the best. Much better than googles and apples!
And they have true offline maps.

I just downloaded and signed to the premium service for GPS Navigation on the current offer. Does this mean I have gone for the wrong service and should have gone for "Car Navigation: Maps & GPS"? Does the subscription apply across both? Not at all clear as just went for the first option in the app store.

You just have to wait a little longer - the update is currently stuck at Apple.

I had the same issue/concern. I opened up the app. On the main screen (map) I clicked on the icon on the bottom right, it brought up the app settings. I logged in with my Sygic account and the premium trial message disappeared. I don't know what that means. I am just wondering if paying for the other gps app gave me access to the basic usage on the car navigation app? Might want to try it and test it out.

Man, does anyone remember the days of paying upwards of $45-60 for the first GPS apps like Navigon? And before iOS 4’s background app refresh (e.g. multitasking), you couldn’t even leave the app without losing guidance. And Google sat on their butts about bringing live TbT directions to iOS, until Apple went ahead and made their own? I’d still trade those times to have Steve back, though! At least we’d have a Maps and Music app I’d want to use again.

Sygic's "Car Navigation: GPS & Maps" iOS app has updated to support CarPlay today. Sygic's app has a long history on the iOS App Store as one of the first GPS navigation apps available to download on the iPhone.

With CarPlay support, Sygic Car Navigation on iOS [Direct Link] connects to a car's infotainment system, projecting Sygic's turn-by-turn directions onto a car's screen. Drivers can control Sygic Car Navigation features through steering wheel buttons and touch screen controls, if they are signed up for the company's Premium plans.

Downloading the app is free, but after a seven day free trial, users will have to pay for one of a handful of bundles to acquire a license to use the app. The Premium lifetime licenses included features like offline maps, speed limits, voice-guided navigation, fuel prices, lane guidance, route sharing, traffic information, and more. Prices for North American bundles range from $13.99 for "basic" to $74.99 for "connected."

At WWDC in June, Apple announced that third-party navigation apps would be able to work with CarPlay this year, finally opening up CarPlay navigation to more than just Apple Maps. Following the announcement, CarPlay support rolled out for both Waze and Google Maps in September, and AutoNavi followed in China a few weeks ago. Sygic's app is the latest addition to this list.

[doublepost=1541754357][/doublepost]Can anyone explain why the carplay version of Sygic GPS & Maps is still stuck in app store review. I'm told it is out of Sygic control... usually it only takes up to a week for reviews to be approved, this has been going on over a month!
I bought the GPS & Maps version not realising there was a Car navigation version too. The basic Car nav sucks as it gives no info other than the map... not speed, eta, etc...
Have I wasted my money?
