Lots of assumptions being made that the iPhone 8 will include this. If rumors were true, the current iPhone would have wireless charging, a projector, 3D screen, virtual keyboard, and much more (all according to "reputable" reports from MacRumors and their sources).

Please remember that a rumor is just a rumor. It's silly to get bent out of shape after every Apple announcement when something that was never promised wasn't included in a new product. BUT THE LOTTERY GUYS MADE ME BELIEVE I'D WIN!!
True but rumors for the last 3 iphones have been pretty much spot on.

Nah, I don't want a buttonless phone - a true slab. There's nothing wrong with a couple of physical buttons. Hopefully this "zen" phase of minimalism Apple is imposing on the iPhone will abate and we can get back to usability in use instead of looking at it and not using it.

This same company makes some of the worst trackpads in the world. They have not demonstrated the ability to make a good product.

Didn't Apple use Synaptics for its trackpads for years? I think the PC manufacturers are at fault for how lousy the trackpads are, even when using Synaptics technology internally. I've cringed so many times when I've used various PC brands. Fingers don't slide smoothly, different regions behave differently... a real mess. That's why I've always enjoyed Apple's implementation much better.

True but rumors for the last 3 iphones have been pretty much spot on.

Other than the lack of wireless charging, Saphire glass screen, curved screen, open NFC, 4GB RAM, etc, etc, etc.....

The point is, until Apple announces it, it's not real. Don't buy into rumors because you'll only be let down. That's why these forums are FILLED with complaining and crying after every Apple announcement. No matter how awesome the new product is, they will never include every rumored feature and people will complain. If you don't buy in there's no let down and you can be happier in life.

And somehow MacRumours still thinks 2017 will be the iPhone 8? Like Apple is gonna stop with their 'S' cycle.... The iPhone 8 will be in 2018 while the iPhone 7S will debut in 2017 and will look the same as the 7.

These same rumours happened before the 6S, you had articles that it will be the iPhone 7 in 2015 instead of the 6S.

Anyway if Samsung does the bezel less, no home button, finger printer reading screen in March then I'll be switching over. I won't be waiting til 2018 for removal of the home button... This should have been done with the iphone 7.
The iPhone 7 has been more like an iPhone 6SE (essentially the iPhone 6 on a 3-year development cycle).

Won't be surprised if the next iPhone is the "real" iPhone 7 sporting a new form factor (and with Apple moving to a 3-year refresh cycle). If Apple can do this, they can call it whatever they want and I won't care.

Given that I have sweaty fingers, I am totally for this design.
Question is, what about screen protectors? Since it is going to cost a fortune to replace the crack screen.

No one has suggested the power button would be replaced. We currently have a buttonless "home button" on the iPhone 7, all that's required is the under screen fingerprint technology to take it one step further.
Yep, agree. This is a good advancement!

Guys all your answers how this works will be answered when Galaxy S8 launches...
For once more we wait innovation by somebody else - not Cook's Apple...

Aaand there you go. The circle is complete so now we know the technology exists so Apple can indeed move forward with the rumoured plans for an all-glass, all-screen front display. Now if I can wait that long for 2017, this Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is driving me nuts with janky Android.

The placement doesn't even need to be on the front of a phone. Once used to it, the back is a very nice place for a fingerprint sensor. The scrollability of the new Google Pixel is an added benefit. Touch to unlock and roll you finger down to bring down your notifications. Quite smart!

Like/dislike this idea. Call me old school - but I still like a physical button for some things - especially powering on and off.

Also - I wonder what this will do with repair/replacement costs given that the entire front panel would need to be replaced.
you don't turn off/on your iphone w the home button though

I bet this is the same tech they will use, not in house but this. Just kept it secret up to now.

They have. They teamed up with Microsoft to make a touchpad that's every bit as good as the MBP trackpad. It's the cheap ass OEM's who have never bothered to implement it.

...These are the suppliers that the likes of Apple use.
That has nothing to do with my statement.

There are already like a few phones released in the past couple of months that do this, so yeah it makes sense for Apple to incorporate it a year or two later and claim they are magical, even though it's 3rd parties that are creating all the magic for Apple these days.

Yeah, sorta like Samsung finger print reader in the Galaxy S5 and Note 4.
They really showed the world how finger print scanning should work.

This has got Galaxy S8 written all over it. To think anyone can link this to an iPhone is really stretching it. I ask, which company has increasingly over time, made their phones to have as little bezel as possible? Which company has been pushing display tech to the outer limits? Which company has infused cutting edge display tech into their world dominating smartphone designs? That would be Samsung. Let's keep expectations real by basing then off historical data.

The iPhone 7 currently uses the display glass over the home "button" (or area) - Not Sapphire. So.. The iPhone 7 ALREADY scans through the display glass, which merely has an aluminum circle embedded in it for ease in location. Reading through the display itself, however, is a new concept. Also, the iPhone 7, at least in my experience, is the first touch ID to read a wet fingerprint, and do it quite well. The only thing it wont do, is recognize a glove.

For all those who like to claim that the following are coming, or are in some way inevitable, can ANY of you explain how the actual product works?

No Bezels
No Home Button
Edge to Edge Display

1) Obviously there will still be a Home Button, so where is it? How does that work in concept?

2) How do you deal with unintended touches? Apple has pretty good detection for this, but it is aided by the fact that there is still SOME area which is not display that your hands rest on.

3) What happens to the Facetime Camera, Proximity Sensor, and Ambient light sensor? Are you going to tell me: "They are still there, just under the display and you can't see them." ? Oh really? And you can tell me how that, which is impossible, is suddenly possible?

I really think some of these fantasy ideas should have some ground explanation if people are just going to parrot them endlessly.

Lol everyone always tries to beat Apple to the punch.

Apple is like Dell in that they buy off-the-shelf components from R&D manufacturers like Samsung, Qualcomm, Sony, Intel, etc. then assemble into a final product. Component manufacturers demo components far in advance so it's expected their customers will pre-announce interest in using a component in a future product. It's like Apple pre-announcing interest in using Intel Kaby Lake but have to wait in line after the big guys Lenovo and Dell.

Guess what company's innovation resulted in 2 recalls.

I'm not reading anything here about the Synaptics product that would give people what they are asking for, which is bezel-less, edge to edge screen. It would appear that this product still needs a bezel, but no holes.

This.

And this.

Uh, Apple's had plenty of recalls. Off topic post is meaningless.
