I'm trying to help my friend out.
His notebook crashed and had to reinstall everything.
Since he has his songs, contacts, etc still in his iPhone, he'd like to sync it in reverse. From his iPhone to his iTunes. I think this can be done.

Are there special settings I need to do in order to do this?
I have not plugged the iPhone to the newly installed iTunes because I don't want to wipe his iPhone accidentally.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

Your friend should have recovered the data on the hard drive, bad move on his part.

Anyways... when you plug in the iPhone to the computer iTunes will automatically back up all the information EXCEPT music/videos/podcast that were not purchased through iTunes.
In order to get the music and videos off he will have to download an "iPod (iPhone) to computer ripper" program.

    Thanks for the quick response.

He's actually more concerned about his Contacts on his phone than the music. As long as he gets to keep them when he'll be happy.

Unfortunately he did the system restore before I got a chance to pull his drive and try and save his data. For his songs, I'll try and get one of those softwares to back up his songs.

Going back to his contacts. He uses outlook to store all his contact info and synced them to his phone with itunes. Going in reverse, will all his contacts go back to his outlook contacts?
