It appears that the only way to work with movies taken with the iPhone on my mac ( iMac ) is to first download through iPhoto and them move them to iMovie. Am I understanding that correctly, or is there a way to download directly into iMovie on my Mac?

I use Image Capture to move the movies on my 3GS to folders in my Movies directories and then load them into iMovie from there.
