iPod touch sync mobile mail and mail.app?

I just got an iPod touch thanks to the Back-to-School deal and I love it so far, but is there a way to sync Mail on the iPod and Mail.app on my Mac beyond simply the account settings? Things like read/unread, sent mail, replies, etc?

If you use IMAP email (and thus not POP) the two will stay in sync without your having to do anything.
