Synching iPhone3G after switching from a PC to Mac; plus retaining my contacts list.

Up until yesterday, I have been running on a PC/Windows-based system and had my iPhone 3G synching with my Windows' version of iTunes. I have a couple of questions about this transfer.

Now that I'm solely running Mac/OS X, when I go to synch up my iPhone 3G for the first time to iTunes, is there something I need to do within iTunes to reformat or adjust it to the Mac/OS X platform or will it just format to Mac/OS X automatically. I remember when my wife had her MBP about a year ago there was some extra things she had to do within iTunes to tell her MacBook Pro that her iPod was now running under Mac (since she, like myself now, was a past-windows user).

Also, when I synch my iPhone 3G to iTunes for the first time, will the contacts on my iPhone download and set up into Mail? If not, is it a situation where I have to manually enter each contact into Mail?

    Thanks!

When you sync with your Mac, it'll reformat your iPhone and sync (if you tell it to) your Mail, Address Book Contacts and iCal data.

If you have all the contacts in your Address Book already, just sync with that. And any email accounts setup in Mail will automatically be synced to your iPhone.

But you'll loose anything on your iPhone when you do this. Did you use Outlook or anything on your PC?

Yeah, I used MS Outlook as my email client when I was on my PC.

Also, how to do you like MobileMe? I see it listed in your sig and was considering a move to that as well since I use mail for my email client and have an iPhone. Is it still buggy or does it work 'flawlessly' with your set up?

MobileMe works a treat for me. It was a messy switch over from .Mac but now it is a really stable service. I like the ability to be able to receive Push Email onto my iPhone as well as have my calendar appointments sync seemingly.

I have to rethink my sig as well since I now own an iPhone, Apple TV, and the Mac OS! :p

Thanks everyone for your help; I so appreciate you taking a moment out to help a Mac Noob! I got everything up and running just fine with your help! I lost my music (as expected) but my contacts/address book transfered over to Mail effortlessly. The music is no biggie, really, as I didn't have a huge library anyway; but keeping the contacts was much more important.
