Obviously Apple has iCloud and it makes backing up and restoring an iDevice easy. Is there a one stop option like that for droids?

There are 3rd party options (I mention two below), but nothing like iCloud (yet). Mind you, iCloud is a snapshot of the entire phones OS at a specific point in time and is limited in that respect. Rumors say that Google is setting a similar feature up, but that is still rumor.

That out of the way, all your Google apps are automatically backed up with your info all the time. Switching back and forth between devices, getting new devices, etc means nothing, as the data is not dependent on the hardware. (This does not include app settings, just the data.) So, your gmail, google drive data, Google Keep Notes, Google Music and so on, never lose your data.

If you root your phone and download an app like Titanium Backup and ROM Manager, you can backup everything on the phone or just individual apps and/or settings (Titanium Backup) or do an iCloud like backup (ROM Manager).

If you remain stock, Helium app can achieve some of the things Titanium Backup does.
