    Will it work?

I have an iPhone 4S, 5.0.1 iOS, and it is jailbroken. It's all backed up, but I was wondering if when I got my new iPhone 5 (today) will it cause any problems with syncing it back to get all my contacts/data/apps etc. back?

or, should I just update the damn phone first?

It should restore from that backup fine.

Keep in mind however that jailbreak data may remain and thus slow down your phone... And keep that 4S on 5.0.1 as long as long as you can.

nope, your backup of 5.01 is fine for ios6 IP5
only thing is it will also sync all JB app plist/settings files on your IP5.

So my iPhone 5 will still be jailbroken? Or just have the ******** but not actually able to use it?

And why keep it on 5.0.1?

    I'm asking all the questions

no it's not jailbroken, that would mean a change in the file structure at root level.

every app has a setting or .plist file, that is what itunes backs up as well for jailbreak apps.

when you sync your BU it will also transfer those plist files, not much space and you don't see them.

Cause it will have an untethered jailbreak, once you update to 6.01 on the 4S you can't go back.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

I believed there to be an untethered jailbreak available for 6.0.1, is this not correct?

    I WISH….

no there is only a tethered jailbreak for the IP4/3GS and a 3GS with old bootrom will have an untethered jailbreak.

For A5/A6 devices there is no JB, and won't be for some time.

EDIT: Perhaps you meant A5 device running 6.0.1

It won't be jailbroken, but it may have some jailbreak data left behind.

And youd want to keep it on 5.0.1 1) it's a rare firmware for 4S 2) jailbreakable.

Best advice I can give is to just restore from your 4S backup regardless, like stated above. And leave your 4S on 5.0.1 as long as possible. :p
