syncing mail in iTunes

Is it really necessary to check the sync my Mail box in iTunes? I know it only syncs the account settings in Mail, but it took a while but I got both of my IMAP email accounts to work properly in Mail.app, the Gmail web interface, and on my phone. Right now it's unchecked but i just wanted to make sure before something messes up and all my accounts are screwed up.

No it's not necessary. In fact, I have had problems when trying to sync Mobile Me settings. I prefer to just set it up on the iPhone and use the push feature to sync everything. 😱

I see. Now if only it were possible to add, modify, and delete Google calendar events from iCal and my phone... 😀
