Syncing music like iOS?

Hi,

just got me first Apple TV! ( the new one )

How can I put music on this device so I can play something even when my mac is off? Thought I could sync music just like iOS but AppleTV don't shows up. Streaming is possible though.


I'm not a subscriber of Apple Music.

Streaming only. Apple doesn't let you store content on the AppleTV.

If you don't subscribe to Apple Music, your only choice really, when your Mac is off, is to play it on your iPhone or iPad and use AirPlay to get it to the Apple TV.

I have a Synology NAS where music is also stored. What would be the best solution to stream music? Any App you can recommend?

Did this before. Had a a cheap Logitech Bluetooth <=> Line-Out/Aux converter connected to my tv. My hope was that I can remove one of those devices.

There's a couple of media playing apps on the Apple TV App Store, I know VideoXplorer plays music and it can connect to a NAS. So maybe worth checking it out

Your solution is app. There should be many. I know Plex has music library and can stream from NAS.

If you don't want Apple Music, consider subscribing to iTunes Match. Quite a bit less expensive ($25/year) and it makes your own music available in the cloud for streaming. Works well with Apple TV.
