So here's the deal. I have my computer and my iTunes account synced with my iPhone etc. no hacking pretty standard setup.

My roommate who does not have a computer is really wanting an iPhone, and he was just thinking that he would sync it with my iTunes on my computer(He has no iTunes account either).

My question is: Can I get screwed on this with any digital rights sharing or something? I have a 3G and am planning on getting the new one when it comes out this year, so again, should I let him sync it with my account? any and all thoughts are appreciated!

If you have plenty of room on your computer's hard drive, the best way to do it is to give him his own account on your computer. That way you are not sharing your music or your iTunes account with him.

If you have a Mac go to Settings then choose Accounts and add one for him.

If you have Windows, it is in the Control Panel.

Best solution by far, otherwise he will be sharing your credit card account with the iTunes Store.

You'll be fine. This is exactly what I do with my wife (1 account, 2 iPhones).

Just make sure he understands that he'll need a new plan once he's not your roomate any more. He'll have to find someone else's computer to sync to if he ever wants future updates and he'll lose all your apps, music, and movies when he does that.

So this works fine as long as he's living with your computer, but he needs to be clear on what will happen when he moves somewhere else.

Does he want to buy apps?

While you can do what the other poster suggests, I recommend that he have his own iTune/Apps Store account. As you know they are both the same store.

When you give him a small portion of you computer for his own space it will be better for him in the long run. It is as though both of you have your own computer even though it is just one computer. That is the whole purpose of OS X and Windows offering multiple user accounts on one machine.

You are not husband and wife so you will be going your separate ways so let him start with his own accounts from the beginning. Then in the future, he can continue to use all the apps he is currently using.

One more comment, it is perfectly legal for him to share your account due to the fact that you are living in the same household.

I just think it is better for him in the long run to start fresh.

Use multiple user accounts on your one computer.
