iPod Syncing new iPod from External?

I am getting a new 5G iPod for Christmas, but the problem is that I will be away for Christmas break for 2.5 weeks, leaving my music library on my desktop at school.

I have an external drive that has a bootable duplicate of my drive. My friend has a new iMac. If I boot from my external on her iMac, will I be able to set up and sync my new iPod based on the external's library? How difficult will this be? Will I have to authorize her iMac to play my songs?

You shouldn't need to authorise the new machine because the library is (probably) already authorised assuming you've used it before on another machine. Does it have the correct partition scheme to be booted from? If it doesn't then you should be able to simply connect it to the iMac and then open iTunes whilst holding OPTION. This will give you the ability to load the library from your external instead of from the iMac's default location. 🙂
