My computer locked up... I was hovering my mouse over the dock and then all of a sudden everything froze. I had to manually restart.

When the computer restarted everything was acting strange. I was getting little artifacts everywhere.

Tried to start a thread about my problems and my computer locked up again.

Manually restarted, and here I am now.

So far no artifacts on this restart...

What do you guys think the deal is?

Do you have a PowerMac or Mac Pro? If you do, it's possible that your graphics card (GPU) has come partially unseated. To check this open it up (while it's off) and make sure the graphics card is securely in its housing. It should be even and slide cleanly into and out of the slot it occupies.

If you don't have one of these Macs, or if that doesn't help, try this - go into System Preferences and change your monitor resolution and/or color depth then change it back. Does that make the odd artifacts go away?

I have a new AL iMac.

Problems seem to have gone away... Odd.
