i have a 15" MacBook Pro from 2010 (running Snow Leopard), and i'm getting annoyed because the system crashes and the screen turns off when i'm using it, and have no other choice than press and hold the power button to turn it off and restart it. I just want to know if there's a way to fix this; I already sent the laptop to apple, but they told me they never got a crash or any error, but told me that when they test the macs, they use a separate OS so they never get into my stuff, i guess that's why they never got the crash? I formatted the Hard Drive but that didn't fixed my problem. I have no steps to make it crash on purpose on snow leopard, but i know a way to make it crash on Bootcamp (using Windows7), by trying to open Audiosurf. Here's a video (using bootcamp), the first crash occurs at (0:20), and the second one at (2:50): https://www.dropbox.com/s/3racjibxbvs5nxh/IMG_1188.MOV I also saved some panic reports that OS X gives me when the laptop crashes on Snow Leopard, (not sure if this helps): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qlq90g0kovcvddy/3M3F3OUGMm Hope you can help me , and sorry for my bad english.
I only see empty files, as in 0 bytes. Nothing in any file. Just paste your last report here, only one will do.

GPU related, might be a bug in OS X or faulty GPU. Run Apple Hardware Test and see if there are any errors. Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test Essentially, Hold D at startup and follow instructions
I can't make it run the hardware test I keep pressing the D key before the apple logo shows up, but nothing happens, after 15/20 seconds of pressing the key, the apple logo shows up and the OS starts normally. I have the Snow Leopard discs that came with the macbook, does the hardware test come in one of those discs? or what should i do?
I'd contact Apple without spending a lot of your own time troubleshooting, assuming you've installed the video update in the link below. Your problem matches the issue described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
He already went to Apple as he said in his first post and Apple claimed nothing was wrong with it, so he should try first to manage himself before going back. It might be on the disk, you should read the link I gave, it tells you that for earlier machines it's on the disks which came with the Mac.
whoops you're right, i read it wrong, thought it said the disk stuff wast just with 10.5 or older macs. i just made the hardware test, and it found an error! 4MEM/60/40000000: 0xa4db9498 what does that mean? will apple fix that for me if i show them the error? i still have the warranty with the apple care and all that.
If you still have Applecare thats Valid, just take it in. This is exactly the reason to have a warranty.
My experience was that the genius I spoke to at Apple was unaware of this particular issue and wasn't testing for it specifically. It's worthwhile to persist.
I am not an Expert but I am positive your Memory (RAM) is faulty, did you change (Upgrade) Memory lately? If you changed it I recommend putting the old RAM back and see if you still get them crashes, if not you know. Also, the 0xa4db9498 means there's a memory error at 2765853848 Edit: In post #4 I said it is GPU related, now, if your MBP was using the Intel HD GPU at the moment of the crash it was using RAM, so that might be the reason the report shows the GPU as the cause but most likely it was the RAM. Also, if the RAM is the original Apple RAM and you are out of warranty still go to Apple, RAM should not break in 2-3 years.
holy cow :O, yes, i did a RAM upgrade, imma put the original RAM back and check for crashes. Here's a screencap of the RAM i'm using right now:
The "new" RAMs are Kingston. Damn, it still crashes even with the old RAM that came on the mac, and when using these, the hardware test doesn't find any errors. I think imma try luck at applestore again, tell them that my mac crashes all the time, show them the error that Apple Hardware Test found. (for this, i think i might put back the upgraded RAM so i can show more complaints , cuz again, with the old RAMs the hardware test doesn't find any errors). here's the crashlog now with the old RAM that came in the macbook: Interval Since Last Panic Report: 209422 sec Panics Since Last Report: 7 Anonymous UUID: 9E94BCB5-87A1-484C-AE18-176B50AA5B0A Tue Mar 12 23:01:34 2013 panic(cpu 3 caller 0x9d4c9b): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: CFG 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0xffffffff, BAR0 0xd2000000 0x7f837000 0x0a5480a2, D0, P3/4 Backtrace (CPU 3), Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x5c6517c8 : 0x21b837 (0x5dd7fc 0x5c6517fc 0x223ce1 0x0) 0x5c651818 : 0x9d4c9b (0xbea28c 0xc5a800 0xbf8e60 0x0) 0x5c6518b8 : 0xaef608 (0x8a9e804 0x9198004 0x100 0xae97e3) 0x5c651908 : 0xae6601 (0x9198004 0x100 0x5c651938 0x9c4778) 0x5c651938 : 0x17289a6 (0x9198004 0x100 0x438004ee 0x5c651dc0) 0x5c651a78 : 0xb0e2b5 (0x9198004 0x92da004 0x0 0x0) 0x5c651ab8 : 0x9dde7c (0x9198004 0x92da004 0x0 0x0) 0x5c651b58 : 0x9da55b (0x0 0x9 0x0 0x0) 0x5c651d08 : 0x9db3a3 (0x0 0x600d600d 0x7057 0x5c651d48) 0x5c651df8 : 0xc96508 (0xc1d0004d 0xbeef0003 0xcaf000be 0xcaf002e9) 0x5c651f18 : 0xc967a6 (0x9617c04 0xa610404 0x462f0d28 0x3) 0x5c651f78 : 0xc96a91 (0x9617c04 0xa610404 0x462f0d28 0x5c6521e0) 0x5c652028 : 0xcaad83 (0x9617c04 0xbe948e8 0x5c65239c 0x5c6521e0) 0x5c652298 : 0xc8c3f1 (0x4612c000 0xbe948e8 0x5c65239c 0x9697000) 0x5c6523f8 : 0xc8c62f (0x46039000 0xbe94800 0x1 0x0) 0x5c652428 : 0xc8f0ec (0x46039000 0xbe94800 0x0 0x7ddf66f4) 0x5c652468 : 0xcb144a (0x46039000 0xbe94800 0x46272280 0x140) 0x5c6524f8 : 0xca2c9b (0x8c26580 0xbe94800 0x0 0x1) 0x5c652558 : 0xca2f02 (0x46272000 0x46272788 0xbe94800 0x0) 0x5c6525a8 : 0xca33d6 (0x46272000 0x46272788 0x5c6528cc 0x5c65286c) 0x5c6528e8 : 0xca01a1 (0x46272000 0x46272788 0x1 0x0) 0x5c652908 : 0xc6788f (0x46272000 0x46272788 0x5c6529cc 0x1248) 0x5c652938 : 0xca1c64 (0x46272000 0x5c652a7c 0x292 0x46272000) 0x5c652978 : 0xc6bc93 (0x46272000 0x5c652a7c 0xb 0x0) 0x5c652ab8 : 0xca55d8 (0x46272000 0x1 0x5c652bcc 0x5c652bc8) 0x5c652b68 : 0xc67fe1 (0x46272000 0x1 0x5c652bcc 0x5c652bc8) 0x5c652be8 : 0x56da06 (0x46272000 0x0 0x5c652e3c 0x5c652c74) 0x5c652c38 : 0x56e2a5 (0xcf6720 0x46272000 0xa53c688 0x1) 0x5c652c88 : 0x56eb59 (0x46272000 0x10 0x5c652cd0 0x0) 0x5c652da8 : 0x286638 (0x46272000 0x10 0xa53c688 0x1) 0x5c653e58 : 0x21dbe5 (0xa53c660 0xbe8b5a0 0x1fd7e8 0x5d43) 0x5c653e98 : 0x210a86 (0xa53c600 0x0 0x9337340 0x96a6850) 0x5c653ef8 : 0x216f84 (0xa53c600 0x0 0x0 0x0) 0x5c653f78 : 0x295c57 (0x8e3ab08 0x0 0x0 0x0) 0x5c653fc8 : 0x2a256d (0x8e3ab04 0x1 0x10 0x8e3ab04) Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0xc5c000->0xd12fff dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x96e000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x961000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x928000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x93f000 com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x15f2000->0x1a06fff dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x96e000 com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x96e000->0xc5bfff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x928000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x961000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x93f000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: WindowServer Mac OS version: 10K549 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun 7 16:33:36 PDT 2011; Leave in the old RAM, although it should not matter to Apple since you can upgrade yourself they will complain about the error and that it is 3rd party. Seems the same as before, GPU problems, you could try one thing more but it's a bit of a job, if you have a USB stick minimum 8 GB or an external disk you could try installing OS X on it, then boot from it and see how it goes. But, before you do, there is another thing you could do and it takes only a few minutes, make a new User Account, has to be new, then login into that account and see if the problem persists there, if you still got trouble try the above solution (installing OS X on externe), only if you have done both it is almost sure a GPU problem. It still could be a bug in OS X but I think it's not since it's an earlier OS.
Put the factory RAM back in. Apple will (correctly) fault the aftermarket RAM that is causing the hardware test error and send you on your way. I'd contact Kingston for warranty replacement of that, but it seems to be a different problem than the repeated panics your computer is having.
I used a guest account, and it crashed. I think it's a GPU problem too, because most of the times that it crashes is while i'm using Expose, Spaces, or zooming on Photoshop. I also turned on my mac on Safe Mode once, and it never crashed. I sent my MacBook at Apple again, with the factory RAM in it, they told me to send them an e-mail with the picture of the error that AppleHardwareTest found. I really hope they can fix it Thank you so much guys for your support !! i'm gonna give you any news of my macbook once they give me any
