I have been having lots of problems recently with my Mac shutting down. I've done lots of Repair Permissions, and today I tried verify disk. I received the following results:

  • Invalid volume file count
  • Error: filesystem verify or repair failed

Any thoughts on next steps? I'm trying to put together an Imovie project and it's not going well because of my shutdowns. I have a two year old IMac with the newest OS. Any help will be appreciated!

It sounds to me as if the either the partition table or file table are not complete. If it is, a reinstall might be your only option.
