Alright, this is my 2010 dual-Xeon with 8 cores, 12GB RAM (6x2GB) and a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GPU. Running High Sierra 10.13.6 with BootROM 140.0.0.0.0
I keep getting system freezes, and I've tentatively narrowed it down to the following conditions: If Safari is open, and the GPU has been under load, when stopping the load on the GPU, the system freezes completely. All inputs stop responding, audio goes silent, the screen freezes and nothing but a hard reboot gets it going again. Sometimes it even reboots on its own.
If I play Call of Duty with Safari open, after quitting the game, the system will freeze.
If I run LuxMark and stress test the GPU with Safari open, once quitting LuxMark the system will freeze.
Here's the thing: I don't see anything in system.log that indicates a kernel panic or other typical errors. EtreCheck doesn't show any issues. Hardware monitors show consistent power levels and no abnormal temperatures.
I'll attach the EtreCheck logs in this post, and photos of the system.log at the time of the crash in a following post.
I have tried to eliminate RAM, processor and power supply issues by running a whole ton of complex tabs in Firefox, including a 4k YouTube video, a huge project in Logic with all the plugin windows open, LuxMark stress test, and Call of Duty on max graphics all simultaneously. When doing so, the computer doesn't even hiccup. The memory pressure graph turns yellow but that's the only indication of the work load.
Only after letting it go back to idle does it freeze, and all the times it's happened have been with Safari running. This has occurred with Safari 11.whatever and 13.1.
The other reason I suspect Safari here is because all other apps restore properly to their previous state when restarting. Safari either comes back to a state several seconds before the crash or a completely fresh restart, no saved tabs, nothing.
What other places/logs can I look for indications of what is going on?
