Not if the username was the same.

No, I thought the OP said they created a new user in the current system.

@gothiquegirrl: So, right now you have 2 users on your system? One has the issue, the other does not?

Not if the username was the same.

I didn't update OS X until AFTER I installed the old preferences.

I erased and re-installed OS X from the disks. It asked me AT THAT TIME if I wanted to install my old preferences. I did. THEN I installed the updates to OS X through software update.

Screensaver didn't work BEFORE. I understand that moving my system folders just re-created the issue. However, updating OS X after the erase and re-install didn't create the ORIGINAL issue.

I hope i don't sound pissy due to caps - just want to put emphasis on the order of events. I do appreciate all your help. :)

The fact is it sounds like she has some older system preferences installed. The only way to fix that good is to do a clean install.

Back up your documents etc. and re-install the OS. Sounds bad but hey!! I do it 6 times a week.:)

Yes.

That is why I was wondering if I could copy the files or info from one to another.

That's why all my info is on an external drive. LOL. Just wanted to avoid doing it AGAIN. Finding all of my serial numbers, boxes and ect.. is a pain. So now i guess i have to decide if all of that is worth a screen saver. :p

Maybe i'll end up leaving well enough alone. It's just annoying when things don't " just work"

I fixed it!!!

Thanks for letting me know what I was looking for! I managed to figure it out and get it fixed.

I went to the preference folder, opened "By Host" and deleted the com.apple.screensaver.XXXXXXX.plist files. The "x's" being random numbers.

YAY!

Very cool. Glad you got it to work. Something like this is usually a bad pref file somewhere (or at least that what everyone hopes that it is).

I've been having the same problem and I erased the file mentioned above.

I did import my old preferences from a previous laptop. Should and can I replace the file I deleted?

did the iLife media update and am running on 10.5.6.
