Is there any way of exporting / importing the settings stored in 'system preferences'?

Is there any way of exporting / importing the settings stored in 'system preferences'?

Most of the Pref Panes have a matching plist file in the folder /Library/Preferences that stores the settings. That said, I have never tried moving them from one machine to another manually.
