This may sound like a strange question, but is there a possibility to turn off the "Software Update Available" message / signal in System Settings?

The reason I ask: At this moment I do not want to upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma, but System Settings now always shows the red circle with the 1 inside on the System Setting symbol in my Dock. Nothing what really matters, but if there is a possibility to shut it off I would do it.

I thought I'd try the terminal command as listed in reply 2 above.

It worked... for a very short while. The "red badge" disappeared.

But then...
Just to check things, I went to System Preferences --> Software update and it showed 1 update available (Sonoma).

And then... as soon as I closed System Preferences, the "red badge" came back.

I, too, would rather that the red badge not be there.
But it is, seems impossible to get rid of, so... one must learn to live with it.

Those commands only remove the badge until Software Update or the user check for updates.
Try a defer upgrade configuration profile https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-forever.2367582/?post=31689711#post-31689711

Finally, I decided to go a more uncomplicated route...!

I created an alias for System Settings and keep the alias in the dock. The alias does not show the red dot, just the little alias arrow, but that´s something I can live with as it is barely visible.
