I cant seem to find an answer to this.

If I use up all of my 200MB free data, does it switch to 2G speeds or turn off data completely?

I know with their paid data plans once you go over your limit, you are slowed down. And this is what the tmobile website suggests.

" Full speeds available up to monthly allotment; then slowed to up to 2G speeds for rest of billing cycle. "

But another source claims that once you've used up your 200mb, the ipad will prompt for payment.

Does anyone know?

You will get several warnings as you are approaching your limit and then at 200 MB you will be cut off until your anniversary date or you purchase additional data.

I spoke with several T-Mo CS reps prior to purchasing my iPad Air. I was told emphatically that T-Mo does not cut you off after reaching your 200 MB limit but throttles you to 2G. No plan of theirs stops completely.

I was told that you are throttled down to 2G by a rep (who's also a good friend). Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he knows his stuff although I haven't went past my data allotment yet. He told me it is essentially unlimited (after it is throttled of course).

EDIT:

My bad. Though you were talking about phone data, didn't notice the name of the forum heh. I was talking about their cellular service. No idea about the free iPad data....doubt it.

They were wrong, the free plan cuts you off. I reached my data cap two weeks ago and was shut off.

T-Mobile 200MB data question

Ha ok no surprise there. I'm gonna try to make mine last. I turned off email fetch and iMessage on cellular and a bunch of other services. I also downgraded images over cellular to save on data. Hopefully I can use that to stretch my 200mb free. Or I might just go with the AT&T 1gb 3month plan.

Will T Mobile just sell me a nano SIM card? I went to a kiosk in the mall yesterday, and the dude said they would need to set up a data plan. I told him no thanks. I know I can order online, but I'm an instant gratification kind of guy.

I believe they will charge you $10.00 at a store and try to activate you onto a plan. T-Mobile is offering the Nano Sim starter kit for free online and it usually gets to your house in a couple of days.

What about the best way to get an AT&T sim? I've currently got a tmobile one but am thinking the 3 mo plan might be better for me, too.

Two easy options:
  1. Walk into an AT&T corporate store and ask for a SIM. They happily gave me one for my Verizon iPad3 at no charge.
  2. Ask for one at an Apple store. When picking up my Verizon rMini I asked for an AT&T SIM as well and th have me one for free.

I've noticed that there is a SIM card listed on the T Mobile website for tablets, and another for iPhones. Are there any differences or are they the same thing?

None as far as I know. I've used the free "phone" ones on my iPads with no trouble. Note that they say its compatible, not that it's specific to iPhones.
