Hi! Is there a tweak for the 4S that shows if you have 4G (like AT&T 4G indicator) while on the T-Mobile network? I have a 4S and it only displays 3G, so I have to take speed tests to figure out if I have 4G reception or 3G.

Thanks!

No, only on AT&T does the 4S display 4G. Also, on an AT&T network, the 4S is only able to show the GPRS dot, EDGE, or 4G. It is not able to show 3G even if it is on a non-HSPA+ 3G network.

Are you sure you have 4G then?

No such thing for Tmobile yet.
Maybe soon after they become an official carrier and support the iPhone they will push out a carrier update that will display it as 4G where available.

3G speeds at 1.5Mbps, 4G speeds at 10-15Mbps.

That's why I'm asking if there's a tweak or some mod in Cydia. I know there's no jailbreak yet but if there's a tweak/mod and an untethered jailbreak, I'll download it.

Wait until Q2 or Q3 of this year. There will probably be a carrier update available and you'll have some sort of HSPA+ indicator. This is all guessing though.

Hopefully with the refarm they are making all 3G into 4G much like AT&T is doing.

3G is still an acceptable speed especially on T-Mobile. I guess just enjoy your device in the mean time :apple:

They're refarming old GSM/EDGE towers into HSPA/HSPA+ towers. 3G on T-Mobile varies from 0.5-4.0mbps down, and HSPA+ (I REFUSE to call it 4G) varies between 7mbps-30mbps down (these are real life speeds)

I do believe their 3G is slower than AT&T, but don't you think speeds vary based on location? Even stil half a megabyte down a second isn't horrible give its non 4G and their pricing.

With my AT&T sim card in my 3GS (my only 3G-only phone), it gets like 0.1mbps down. With my prepaid T-Mobile SIM card in it, it gets about 3mbps down from the same location. With the same T-Mobile SIM card in my friend's T-Mobile 4G phone from the same location, I pulled 18mbps down.

The 3GS is not HSPA+ compatible btw.
