Great deal for only $10 but one question - if you use the 5GB in under 150 days, do you have to wait until the 150th day before you can purchase again? The plan is available under Cellular Data Plans on the iPad but there's no info on the T-Mobile web site about it.

Not in my experience. There was an issue with my usage (I think a safari bug, my usage went through the roof for awhile for some reason, where one time my 5GB lasted 9 days).

When you actually run out, even when you bought another 5GB, I generally had to do some troubleshooting like turning off the iPad to get it to use the new plan.

The plan is supposedly only for a single time, so there is no guarantee that it will continue to be available. But it was for the 6 months I used it (went unlimited on ATT as a $20/month add-on to my unlimited iPhone plan).

Thanks for the response. "single time" - you mean each user can buy this only once for a device? It's been around for some time - I used it once last year on a different iPad.

Canada, eh!
Wait until you run out of data or the 150 day plan expires before purchasing more data.

I read on howardforums.com where one person stacked plans and then got cancelled.

I didn't plan to stack - I was just wondering if I had to wait the full 150 days before purchasing again if I ran out of data.

Sorry, I didn't understand the first time.

Yes you can purchase another one before the 150 days if you are out of data. I usually run out of data well before 150 days.

I have renewed mine like 6 times already and I use it as secondary to my att account ... for $10 it’s not a bad deal ... sometimes I renew it’s halfway thru ... when I go to Atlanta, home of ATT I turn it on cause att sucks there ... when I go to vacation where the towers are loaded ... I use T-Mobile. And it works perfectly on LTE ... best deal out there

Is this plan still available on newer LTE ipads? I have a first gen 9.7 pro ipad, works great. I'm wondering if I get a new 2018 pro ipad, is this type of plan still available? I know the 200mb is device specific (and no longer available), but I want to be able to get a 5GB for 150 days for 10$, it's really all I ever use.

I don't think so because it was part of the free data for life promotion (200mb). But the only way to find out is to get an unactivated T-Mobile SIM card and pop it in your iPad and see what plans come up.

I think the best current deal is $10 for 2gb.

Hard to say. I just re-up'd for it yesterday on my 10.5 iPP.

I've been using this since 2015 when I got my iPad Air 2. I'm surprised the trick still works. I'm glad I kept my SIM card since it allows me to keep re-upping.

By "re-up" - were you able to do this in the T-Mobile app? In Settings/Cellular Data?

Did you need to call Tmobile to renew?

I did it on the iPad under Cellular Data, Add a New Plan. I think this is the only place that this plan shows up - it's definitely not on-line.

I had no problems having them update the SIM card on my unlimited data for life line to my first generation iPad Pro with embedded sim.

The 200MB for life is over, has been for a while now, however, the 5GB plan/$10 is still available, its not under monthly plans its under Day/Week Passes.

Interesting - I've got an old cellular iPad Mini 4 (3 years old?) from when they first game out (still love it) and it had data via the 200 MB data for life - but t-mobile stopped that practice. For me to get that 5 GB for 5 Months - I have to call t-mobile, as the settings on the mini don't show how to select that plan. It is a PAIN to renew it.

I also have an iPad Pro 10.5 in front of me - where I can make those selections - and just added the plan... So there's a different UX depending on the hardware you're using (both on iOS 12.1)

I rarely use the LTE service on the iPad, but it's nice when it's there. This plan is a good compromise.

Just to make sure - is there anyone on this forum that this is able to use a cellular mini 4 with this plan?

I'm not on the 5gb 5month plan but I have my Mini 4 on a post paid unlimited plan that I got for free. It was when Tmobile was giving away free lines, either a phone or a tablet. Since we already had everyone in my family on our plan I just got a free tablet plan and put it on my Mini. Was thinking about moving the SIM to a new iPad 11... but not sure if it's worth doing. Right now I have a Wifi 11" version and I carry around my Mini to use as a hotspot.

I'm still getting the 200MB on my 9.7 ipad pro. I've also continued to "re-up" the 5GB for five months for 10$ plan when I'm traveling. I'm not sure if one has to actually WAIT for the 5 months to run out, before renewing, but that is the way I've been doing it for the last couple years now. It's a great plan and the 5GB/10$/5 months plan is available on the newer ipads too, just not sure if they are smarter or more picky about re-ups.

I've done more than one re-up in less than 5 months.

The plan says capped when I bring it up. What does that mean, I assume speed capped, what speeds do you see?

I’m on the 5gb plan and plan to change iPads. Can I transfer it to a different iPad do I have to pay another $10?
