I went to my local T-Mobile store today, and they told me that they will offer me $275 for my unlocked iPhone 5 16 GB version.

I'm in Connecticut, so I doubt that there will be many T-Mobile users at the store at 9 AM on Friday. I don't think this will be an issue if I show up at nine and get an iPhone.

Anyone else heard about this trade in?

Yeah they take trade ins for all phones now but honestly you could get $500 at least for an iPhone 5 in Craigslist. Up to you though.

$275? Thats a robbery, not a trade in.

Even Gazelle is offering $300-330 for unlocked iPhone 5's at 16GB.

But surely eBay could get you much closer to $400-500+, if want to go that route (I would if I were you.)

Do you guys think it's going to be a blowout at the stores? My store opens at nine and I'm probably going to be there about quarter till nine

Prices for a used iPhone on eBay are something like this:

3GS: $100+
4: $200+
4S: $300+
5: $400+

A new iPhone 5 (16GB) is $579 from T-Mobile, $649 from Apple. Getting "only" $275 for an iPhone 5 does seem quite low.

Bend over:D
Offcourse they will pay half of what its worth then unload it on Ebay or CL and make a profit.
Up to you if you want the convenience though.

What a joke.

You can sell it for $500+ easily on CL.

It's not a joke. Trade-in value is never as high as selling it yourself. T-mobile isn't going to pay market value for the phones and have to turn around and sell them somehow. They have to make profit too. This applies pretty much with anything you sell vs trade-in.

You can easily get at least $150 or more selling it on craigslist......for reference I sold my unlocked iPhone 5 in perfect condition with box for $ 520 on CL.

if anyone wants to go trade in their iPhone, ill gladly pay $275, heck even $300.

Cash waiting for anyone that has plans to trade it in at store as my siblings could use upgrades.

$275 is highway robbery!! You can get $500+ for an unlocked version.

But you aren't selling it to T-mobile. You are trading it in. T-mobile probably deals with another company that re-sells them. So clearly, they aren't giving you market value. That is how trade-ins work. I guess no one here has traded in a car.

That's how trade ins work no doubt, but its a bad deal for the trader. I would never trade anything in.

It really depends. Some people value their time over the hassle of selling. It really depends on your financial situation.

Yep it depends on you know how. My sister would not be able to sell her phone on eBay or craigslits. I was the same years ago as well. It doesn't really depend on your finances, but on you knowledge of sites like eBay.
