What could TMO possibly give other carrier's customer..? (Without requiring them to switch.)

T-Mobile gives perks like in flight data, rhapsody membership, mlb at bat, etc... Maybe something along those lines.

Sounds good but T-Mobile should spend their money on upgrading their weak network!. I've had phones on all 3 networks and T-Mobile is by far the worst when it comes to coverage!.

Yep, another gimmick from tmobile. They're probably worse than Sprint.

I have been with T-Mobile since Septemer 2012 and I have not been tempted to return to AT&T in the slightest. So my personal feeling is this is a great marketing move to get people to up their data caps. I have no doubt they'll reap some benefit from this.

I will concede coverage is not always on par with the legacy carriers, but I would say that it's 95% there. Ironically, I don't get coverage at home but I'm in an area of Los Angeles directly adjacent to the mountains and as the area has gentrified somewhat NIMBYs have toppled efforts to add towers. But with wifi calling implemented it's a non-issue for the most part.

I agree completely.
You really won't ever use up that whole 1GB per month quota if you just do email and the occasional use of apps like Google or Apple Maps, or occasionally looking things up in Safari browser.

That's been my experience for years now. Streaming video is a data killer, and is usually what causes people I know to want bigger data plans. (A lot of younger people like our kids listen to a lot of music via YouTube, so they're burning through video even though all they wanted was the audio portion.)

I do use public transit, but I started carrying my iPad for that, and have a second 1GB LTE plan on it. So that tends to share the load with the 1GB plan on my phone, and combined, that always gets me through.

It is a great advertising tactic, but it's funny--I'm a 1GB subscriber, and despite having a latest-model iPhone for two years in a row I've never hit that cap. I'm sure the situation is different for people who spend a lot of time on public transit or watch a lot of streaming video, but I've actually been really surprised at how far 1GB of data goes.

Great news. Too bad T-Mobile hiked the prices on their data plans about a week ago, so their unlimited plan went from being $30/month to $45 for new subscribers, and their reception quality isn't as good as their competitors'.

Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but Binge On has already saved my data plan. I will never use 10GB of data each month with unlimited music and video streaming. A little bummed that rollover is now capped at 20GB (so long as binge on is active), but it is what it is. At my current usage rates I will have 20GB in my "stash" after 3-4 months of service.

It's only on their single line plans. If you have 2+ lines it's stll $30 per line. TMO (and other carriers) are significantly cheaper as family plans anyway. But you aren't wrong. Bummer for single line users.

Unless I am mistaken, TMO spends more of their profits on upgrading their network (as a percentage) than any other carrier, currently. As with any business, you don't put all of your eggs in one basket. The best way to continue expanding their network is to keep pulling in more customers (current rate is 2 million per quarter). One of the ways you do that is by giving current customers perks to have them speaking favorably of the network. The holiday season is a massive opportunity to expand customerbase especially since a lot of people are looking to buy new devices. Why not buy them on TMO?!

Despite some hiccups ordering phones and getting credits for old phones, we have no regretted moving over. We have even gotten two different families (total of 6 lines) switched over to TMO. They are ROCK SOLID in SoCal, which is an enormous market. TMO is banking on this word of mouth. In three months I have already saved enough money that I could just buy some ATT or Verizon prepaid sims if we travel somewhere with poor/no coverage with TMO and still be ahead. In a year I have saved enough to buy a top of the line iPhone (highest storage, Plus Variant) with my savings.

I don't say this all to prove you wrong. TMO doesn't have the coverage the big two do. But it takes money to expand. And it takes increasing profits to continue expansion. Luckily TMO seems to be on that path.

Yep, another gimmick from tmobile. They're probably worse than Sprint.

Actually, they've substantially upgraded their network from just a few years ago. T-Mobile today is not the same network it was ten years ago or even two years ago, especially if you've got a Band 12-compatible (6S) phone. It is often times much faster than my counterparts on Verizon & AT&T in my area.

T-Mobile: "Here loyal customers, have some free stuff!" -customers come in by the millions each quarter-

Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint: "Ha, screw you customers, enjoy the overages and misleading plans!" -customers run away as fast as they can-

What a difficult concept.

I've been with t-mboile for a while. I've noticed better reception on my 6s.

I can attest to their not being the same as they were two years ago. They were unsuable in new England two years ago. I tried.

So, here is the thing: it says you need to enable BingeOn for this to work. But to enable BingeOn you need a data plan of at least 3Gb. And the basic tier in Simple Choice is 2Gb (upgraded from 1Gb). Thus, it is NOT available to all simple choice customers. Now, I don't have a problem with this not being able to the basic tier. But I feel it's dishonest to state it's available to ALL simple choice customers.

From what I remember those phone subsidies that stop when the phone is paid off were a bit of a hidden price increase, when EDGE and NEXT were started they were a terrible deal unless you wanted to upgrade early as they were pretty close to the old two year contract price, that would get you a subsidy, plus you had to make the phone payment which led you to paying quite a bit more. Now their contract prices have also risen to mostly match up, but that still doesn't mean it is a great deal.
Back in the day (and it's still not as uncommon as it should be) you always paid $X and got a "free!" phone with your plan.

The reality, of course, was that part of the monthly cost was a subsidy for the cost of the phone. The universal ripoff of that system is that when the phone is paid off (your 2-year contract is up for a new phone), the price doesn't go down. So cellular carriers almost universally screwed people who didn't upgrade their phone as soon as they were eligible. Basically every month you kept your phone past the eligible upgrade date, you were giving ~$20-30 to your provider for nothing in return.

I think it was T-Mobile that started it, but in any case it's a different world now that several major carriers offer phones that clearly lay out what portion of your bill is the subsidy, and stop making you pay it once your phone is paid off.

The overall cost might be the same per month, but it's honest, and the ripoff is gone for infrequent upgraders (or cheapskates who use really cheap phones).

That's amazing! You are really not getting your money worth on your data or your phones true awesomeness. Last month i used 178GB of date on my T-mobile plan. That's average for me.
In all seriousness: What on Earth are you doing with your phone?

I have a household with a 50Mbit cable connection, with no TV service other than HD Hulu Plus and at least one person at home all day, and both of us do a lot of web browsing. Between my wife and I watching streaming video on computers, HD streaming video on TV, hours of web browsing per day, routinely video chatting with relatives, RDC accessing work computers for hours at a time, and some multi-gigabyte downloads of foreign shows unavailable any other way, we still only use in the 150-200GB per month.

100% honestly, I don't think I could use 178GB on my phone in a month if I tried. I don't even know what I'd do to use that much data.

You, sir, are an extreme outlier.

Anybody know if T-Mobile will have any Black Friday or Cyber Monday iPhone deals for T-Mobile? I mean they did last time but I was too late for it.

Yeah, heard they were offering Free LTE Data for All Customers for Three Months. Pretty sweet deal, eh, bro?

AT&T for me is still the best deal in terms of encompassing service, quality, and rate.

I do like how T-Mobile at least doesn't pass up on existing customers.

Sprint is just the desperate child. I walked in with a friend who has sprint and their sales guy tried real hard to get me to switch.

It came down to this:
50% rate plan cut and $450 for leaving AT&T. My phone (6S Plus) isn't carrier locked and I don't have a contract. I could even get a free iPhone 6S on top of it.

No wonder they are in a huge debt. I could basically "switch" and not actually cancel AT&T and use the $450 to cover the first year or so

Yeah, everyone else is just "evil".

Leader in what?

Give me a break man, Verizon and AT&T want to get you enjoying as much data consumption as possible because it drives people into penalties and increased data packages.

I'm paying $140/mo for 3 lines of unlimited everything on T-Mobile. After getting hit with penalties for busting data caps constantly on AT&T I don't even bother thinking about it now.

Yeah, there're the occasional tradeoffs in coverage but I honestly encounter it very rarely living in California. I have been extremely happy with my whole experience since switching a year and a half ago.

For ppl like me already on unlimited (if you need 4 lines)
Mike Seivert Twitter:

Something very special for Unlimited 4G LTE customers this holiday season as well! BEST DEAL EVER 4 lines for $180 ($45/line!!). But Hurry!
I have 4 lines for $120 with 10GB data for each line. I could not be any happier with T-Mobile then I am now.

This is just another T-Mobile publicity stunt. I feel sorry for Verizon and AT&T who are made to be the bad guys while this sort of dishonest marketing is going on.

On your mobile? Don't you have internet at home? I use no more than 1 GB on my mobile plan, and the rest on my home WiFi.
