T-Mobile elimination of 15% discount…should I just go back to AT&T?

Those taxes and fees are insane. I pay $13.55 TOTAL in taxes and fees for my AT&T shared plan with 10GB and 5 lines of service.

The line items on my T-Mobile bill per line were:

Regulatory Programs Fee: $1.61 (flat rate)
Federal Universal Service Fund: 3.9% (variable)
Telecom Excise Tax: 13.5% (variable)
State 911: $0.73 (flat rate)

For the variable % line items, the data plans were not taxed which was good, but the $80 simple choice, $1.61 fee, and $10 each for lines 3, 4, and 5 were taxed.

So basically, the $80 plan and the first 2 lines were taxed/fee'd a total of $19.16. And each of the other 3 lines were taxed/fee'd at $4.36 each (which sucks based off $10 per line!).

Yep, I posted that a little while ago:

The only thing not clear though is, do you need to be a "corporate customer" with corporate liability or a normal customer getting the "corporate discount". Assume the latter hopefully, but nothing official just yet from T-Mobile.

For me, when I signed up 3 weeks ago, they scanned my work ID and told me that I'd have the discount applied an month or two from the sign-up date. But I still haven't received my first full-month bill...I sure hope that 15% is there!

I signed up about a week ago. I added my dad as an authorize user to my account since he is a retired army reserves and he also works for the state. I hope my discount stays!

I didn't call, but I did chat online. They understood the disappointment, but still touted their service as the best value out there. No compensation proposed or anything. Even vented my frustration since I just moved over and now, conveniently for them, I am just past my 14 day return window.

Service and coverage on my iPhone has been just fine...I'd say the same as it was from AT&T for where I have been. For the 2 basic phones I am having some problems that they supposedly have been looking into at the cell tower level nearest my house since Monday 3/25.

I would give them a call. My experience is that they will do something for you if you calmly explain the situation and how you moved over to them based on the discount and now they are taking it away. I've called them quite a few times over a number of different issues and I've been credited and discounted hundreds of dollars. I could tell you a couple of stories you wouldn't believe. One involves being credited for the entire cost of an iPad Air.

Looks like this has been officially reversed and I should expect to see the 15% discount when I get my first full bill sometime next week!

One other question that I do have, for anyone that has already been receiving bills with the 15% corporate discount: Do the taxes and fees get calculated on the discounted amount? Or show as a credit from the original amount?

For example, if the bill is $100 and taxes (for round numbers) are normally 20%. Would I get taxed on $85? Or taxed on $100 and then get a $15 credit applied?
The former would result in a total bill of $102.00 and the latter would be a total bill of $105.00. Thanks!
