How is 7mb/s horrible? You can do everything with that speed.

or do you mean compared to 30mb/s?

7mb is on the high end and even with that Safari was timing out and Mail would not fetch. This is not the norm of course, but still run into it a lot around NYC areas. In comparison my boyfriend has an iPhone 7S on Verizon and speeds are much faster and more consistent.

My old work phone was on T-Mobile for a while and when it worked it was great but there were a lot of dead zones in the NY areas. Our company got off T-Mobile because of too many complaints of phones not working.

Reading the first few posts of people going on and on about how great T-Mobile is I don't get it. People say its changed and coverage isn't an issue anymore. I have coworkers on TMobile and my girlfriend is on it as well. We live in Atlanta. Not the middle of nowhere. Coworker can walk into our one story building in the Alpharetta tech corridor and completely lose signal with TMobile. Data center completely lose signal (VZ has 3G in the facility but there is at least something). I can say maybe once a week I don't have a dropped call from my girlfriends phone and we talk everyday. TMobiles spectrum is just **** at penetration. When you have any signal its fast. Getting signal and getting consistent signal is still a huge issue in a city that should have damn near perfect coverage by the way some people are talking praises about them.

yes you are quite right... i get the same issue .. I work for GE in Louisville KY and I get one bar with LTE and sometime signal goes off ... but WHO GIVES A F*** I am connected to my company WIFI at work ... or at home, or even at airplane with BOGO ... which is free and guess what a thing calls wifi calling .... which doesn't let me loose any calls ... somewhere my calls gets dropped .. so what .. it can wait 5-10 minute ...
it's all about standing with and standing for a good company who care the most for their customer... now let me put down few things I get from TMO which upset the sleep of these crooks CEO who has been ripping us for many many years... I was with AT&T for 8 years being ripped of and these crooks change my UNL data plan to something else... without my consent ...

I have 2 line unlimited data and I pay 90 for it ..and Use average 15 GB data ...
I use apple music, spotify Driect TV now stream and many more streaming apps while travelling and also have 8 GB Tether Data .. and it's all free ...
my international trip data text etc is free. IN FLIGHT Bogo wifi is free, every Tuesday we get free stuff and it is not bad like I get new movie ticket for $4 .. .
I was given 2 additional everything unlimited sim card for free ... even though I have no one in my family to use as I have small kids... I do not pay a single penny ...
I got my iphone 7 for free ... i pay $2.17 for it ... and when the new iphone launch ... I drop the old iphone 7 and walk away with new iphone 8... Thanks to Tmo JUMP...

I am also very hopeful John L will bring some crazy offer for us to get our hands on new iphone ... remember iphone 7 launch ... after tmo announcement for free iphone 7 every company was rushed to offer the similar promo...

I would absolutely love to switch to T-Mobile from AT&T here in NYC but it simply isn't nearly as good in coverage. AT&T consistently overcharges for slow speeds when they truly need to dump more money in their networks in big cities especially here in NY. The day T-Mobile improves their coverage here, I'll definitely jump ship. T-Mobile's speed is definitely great here.

I tried Tmo and had to switch back to at&t because I didn’t have service whenever I would go inside a building in NYC. That was a couple of years ago, maybe I should try them now and see.

My findings have been exactly the same. Speed doesn't matter if the coverage is subpar.

AT&T has been horrible lately in NYC. I attached a recent speed test I took while walking in Long Island. Even in Queens I see speeds drop as low as 2 MB/s in a lot of areas.

I've experienced that as well, especially since the unlimited plans were brought back. Depending on the time of day, I've seen downstream speeds fluctuate between 7Mbps and 30Mbps in the same location. With that being said, I'd rather have 7Mbps than 0Mbps.

I'm switching out to T-mobile from ATT for next phone. T mobile has better unlimited value. Few years back, I know their coverage wasn't all that great. This is 2017. coverage is looking good.

Because they offer LTE in the least number of places across the US. Fairly easy to offer the highest speeds if you only need to supply it to major metro areas.
Because all those iPhones in bum**** West Virginia need LTE internet access. In all realness, I had ****** reception in Mesa, AZ w/ Verizon. Switched to T-Mobile and it was a god sent. Here in DC, it is always faster than my friends with Verizon. And I pay much less.

Here's hoping the iPhone 8/Edition has a high end modem like Android phones have.

I think in a previous part leak article they were able to decipher that the 7S will be getting the same modem from last year (Intel 7260 or 7360 - I believe it was 7260), and the iPhone Edition will have the 7560.

I don't think 100% of them are Intel modems, I think it's split between Qualcomm and Intel again.

It seems like a lot of the T-Mobile critics haven't been paying much attention the last 2-3 years. T-Mobile has been upgrading their network like crazy. In several tests released this year by review sites, the reviewers found that T-Mobile was first or tied for first in terms of both speed and coverage in basically all of the areas they tested. My own experience backs this up.

I run a small video production company, and we often have to stream video live out to the Internet. Sometimes that means streaming over cellular. I have an LTE modem that works with any of the major carriers, and I keep SIM cards for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile so I can make sure to use whatever carrier has the best coverage wherever we happen to be working. These days, the T-Mobile SIM is almost always the one we use. Not only do we get better speeds, but we have a stronger signal as well. AT&T has easily been the worst, with fairly inconsistent coverage, and very consistently the worst speeds. Verizon is more consistent in both areas, but still outclassed by TMo. At least in my part of the country.

Do you know that T-Mobile doesn't work in your area? I travel quite a bit for work have been to LA, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Austin, NYC, Philly, DC, and Raleigh - All those major cities it works great...
I think you have major-city-itis. There's a lot more to the USA than these major cities, and even the smaller ones. I understand; I grew up in NYC, but my perspective and assumptions have changed. You don't want T-mobile if you live in much of rural New England (or much of rural anywhere else for that matter). Sad face.

In any case, everyone should be grateful T-Mobile exists. Without T-Mobile all the Verizon/ATT/Sprint fans would be paying a LOT more for their service for a lot less in features. T-Mobile brought down the prices for everyone, MVNOs never had as much impact.

I'm also in NYC and I don't have ATT but I know people who do. They have noticed slow down for sure.
I'm on Sprint and I think its actually better than ATT at the moment in NYC. I get 10-40mb/s pretty often.

T-Mobile is solid for me in San Francisco I travel to Canada lots zero extra fees for roaming, long distance, data. T-Moible is the FIRST mobile phone company I like since living in Switzerland an number of years ago.
I travel in NYC, Hawaii, LA, Denver & Vegas and I have had no problems with coverage etc.
T-Moible for me is the first truly no BS cell service.

Sounds like you're making excuses for paying too much with another carrier.

I haven't paid for service since I got my first cellphone in 1997. LULz at you paying for service each month while I eat unlimited data with no throttling and have service in far more places at home and around the world.

I called T-mobile few days ago, they've been up front about everything. They even told me they tottle speed at 32 gb. per line without even hiding this info. They said you can save more if you do autopay...so nice.

I have T-Mobile. It's not perfect by any stretch but it works good enough. I lived in New Mexico and now Arizona and have experienced many of the coverage gaps in these states. While there is still much work to do, coverage has improved in the southwest and they are not finished. T-Mobile isn't for everyone and luckily for us consumers, we have choices on what works best for our needs. For me, the free international roaming is the main reason why I stay with T-Mobile. Also the $100, or so, I save a year is small, but still nice to save a little money here and there. With that being said, if I didn't travel internationally often, I'd probably switch to Verizon. Verizon has the best coverage in Arizona.

I live in Manhattan and T-Mobile is fantastic here, as well as the surrounding boroughs. I also go to NJ a lot and coverage has been great there too. I was surprised to read this comment because T-Mobile and Verizon are supposed to be the best in NYC.

I like koolaid too, if playing Pokémon in urban settings is your use case T-Mobile works, if wanting the ability to make a phone call or play in buildings, parking structures, large areas in the western US, not so much.
I just spent the summer in "farmland" Central California without issue. I have both a Verizon and TMobile phone, neither experience major issues or noteworthy annoyances.

Plenty of Koolaid was drank in my recent cross country drive to Geogia, where again, had no major issues with coverage worth noting. I now live in a small suburb in Georgia by a lake....again....no issues.

I haven't been in an "urban setting" since winter....I'll pass on Pokémon ;)

You're quoting TMobile's interpretation of the maps, not the maps themselves. The maps clearly show TMobile has large gaps in rural coverage. Just follow the links you provide back to the original source.
I'll quote myself. I very rarely jump from LTE to Edge or 4G. I've been all around the country in the last few years. Coverage has improved immensely during that time. There are some rural areas in this country that needs fixing, but that's also the case with my Verizon phone. Plenty of times there's coverage but no data. In a few years, TMobile's network could be the best out of all four carriers.

Times they are Changan'. Keep giving Big Red or The Deathstar your money, it's a free market after all. I'm sticking with Magenta.

I couldn't care less what the speed is. I just want to be able to receive a cell signal in my home . . . or my parents' home. Just give me reliable coverage and I'll be happy. It's like when the internet service providers promise to give me faster internet, but I can't even get a signal in my bedroom. Speed doesn't help me if I don't have a signal. For the average Joe, coverage is WAY more important than speed.

All this is the gimmick to brain wash people into staying with them.
They know very well that they are still far behind Verizon and ATT in coverage and this is one way to make up for 'no service' moments.

No business would be throwing so many freebies if they had a solid performance.

I am glad that they are doing this, but no one is going to convince me to switch to them in Chicago at this time. I had them about a year ago, and could not wait to dump them. I will revisit the coverage in perhaps 2-3 years, but for now, it is either ATT or Verizon that gets my $.

No, in half of the airport you can't even get a data connection. There are parts of the city where there is just no reception (especially outer sunset).. TMO in SF is awful. I have 9 lines on ATT and had 3 on TMO until about a month and a half ago I just got fed up with TMO's BS coverage and pricing games (yeah their "you can only get the promo if you have 2 lines not 3 or 4" BS)... there's just no value in TMO anymore. I do appreciate their market disruption which has driven my ATT bill to now be even cheaper than TMO tho. It's like getting steak at hot dog price. hehe

N=1 in engineering means little. My N=1 experience in Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Arizona, Colorado and sensorly maps are different. Thanks for the permission to use what works for me. Notice that when T-Mobile is discussed people show up as if they have been personally slighted, by the tone of their comments, Almost by design. Very similar Apple discussions here.

I was on T-Mobile for one year. The data wasn't terrible, but in buildings/casinos it was unusable. Visiting SF it wasn't that great either. But, the thing that surprises me.. is that no one ever talks about CALL QUALITY. The call quality on t-mobile is what made me switch back to ATT. I would constantly drop calls/have terrible call quality, so I had to switch back.

Lol. Thanks for info. That sucks though. I mean...i'm about to switch to tmo but basing what you said kind of worries me...maybe i should stick with and get new unlimited plan.
