T-Mobile has announced a limited time promotion offering two lines, each with unlimited talk, text, and 6GB of LTE data, for $80 per month starting April 8. T-Mobile does not charge access or data overage fees, and instead limits each line to unlimited 2G data once the LTE data included has been used.

As a comparison, Verizon charges $100 per month for two lines with unlimited talk, text, and 6GB of LTE data combined -- not per line. The cost breakdown is $60 per month for Verizon's "large" 6GB data bucket, plus an access fee of $20 per month for each smartphone line. Data overages are charged at $15 per GB.

As with all Simple Choice plans, the two lines will both have access to T-Mobile's unlimited video and music streaming incentives Binge On and Music Freedom. Data Stash also allows unused LTE data to roll over for up to one year for no additional charge. Other perks include Carrier Freedom and Mobile Without Borders.

Oh that is nice...

I'm paying $120/month to AT&T for two lines right now for just 6 GB of data combined. T-Mobile would give me twice as much for $40/month less.

I still have 5 months left on my contract with AT&T though. It would cost $300 to buy out that remaining time... would T-Mobile cover that for me to switch?

Do they still have that test-drive offer, where you can try their network for a week for free?

Yes. They will cover the costs to switch. But you bring up a good point about the test drive option. T-Mobile is great as long as you live in an area they cover well. I believe they offer some sort of buyers remorse period that is intended for you to test out their network, but you could try it for a month for cheap with a prepaid sim.

Wtf? I pay $80 PER LINE in Canada for 5GB on Rogers. T-Mobile, come save us.

Don't worry. Legere and minions aren't quite the saviors as they want you to believe. Yes, they are a viable competitor to AT&T and Verizon and millions of people have no issue with their coverage. But, there is a reason people stay with (and continue to join) AT&T and Verizon. It's because of coverage. I've tested T-Mobile several times and each time I come away dissatisfied.

I believe T-Mobile will buy out your contract. I think you have to give them your AT&T phones and buy T-Mobile ones, but they do buyout your contract. See this link for info:

T-Mobile should pay your early termination fees up to $650:

In terms of test-driving, somewhat: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-23903#subhead1

They no longer have the test drive program, but you can get the $30 prepaid plan if you have unlocked devices (100 minutes, unlimited texting, 5GB data before unlimited throttling).

The problem with their test drive is that they only let you use an iPhone 5s. T-Mobile's growth in the low end of the wireless spectrum has come with Band 12. They should at least let people test drive their service with a Band 12 LTE capable device. I know for where I live, Band 12 is supposed to help T-Mobile quite a bit, but they won't let me test drive a Band 12 device (trust me, I tried and tried). Maybe they've changed but that's how it was last fall for me.

EDIT: quoted wrong post before...

I'm in this same scenario. I have unlimited plan and my wife has the 2gb plan. We don't have texting so even with my FAN discount and a flip phone my bill is about $110. When you add texting/data overages its go up to $120 and thats with no tethering too. We are up in September so I will most likely look to switching over to TMobile.

Anyone know if one of these lines can be a tablet or does it have to be another phone?

I made the switch from AT&T in December. T-Mo does pay to switch, but you need to trade in your phone and get a phone through T-Mo. I've heard conflicting things about that, but that seems to be the most accurate thing.

Test drive appears to be dead. I tried doing it last fall.

Couldn't you just sign up as a phone and then take that SIM and pop it into a tablet? The question I have is how do you sign up for this online!?
My experience with TMo is that many of these new promos you need to call or go in-store. Phone is usually pretty painless and easy but I'd prefer to just do it on the internet too. :)

I switched about two months ago from At&t and kind of regret it. Their prices and customer service are great, but the coverage is mediocre (I live in SoCal). I have never experienced so many dropped calls before with my previous carrier. I'm thinking about switching to Verizon next month.

Just noticed it starts 4/8. So I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I do have an existing line for my wife and plan on adding a second for my daughter. My wife's line has been with Tmobile for almost a decade and I've NEVER had to call or speak with them. Been upgrading every other year and service has been mostly great (exceptional when considering the price against ATT/Verizon). Will see how painless it is tomorrow, but I'm really hoping I can continue the streak of avoiding talking to them lol.

Girlfriend is still on AT&T. I think this may be the deal for her to jump onto my plan finally. I have T-Mobile in the DC area, and have no issues. Their coverage has improved greatly in the last few years. I have AT&T for my work mobile, and now I rarely see a difference in coverage quality. Perfectly happy with T-Mobile.

I'm current customer.
4 phone lines 10GB each, + 1 data line for tablet 5GB per month out the door (taxes and all) is $157 for me.
I have data stash, I will look into this plan (provided I can add the two additional lines for $15 each, plus the tablet 5GB)..

It might make the more sense to wait out your contract on AT&T and then get your phones unlocked. Then try out T-mobile's service.

I didn't see anything in the article about subsidizing a new phone purchase. So I assume that the a new phone would add to your monthly expense.

I've heard from other T-Mobile users that if you turn the voice over LTE feature off. You drop far fewer calls.

Existing T-Mobile customer. I love them. Will be switching to this new to save the extra $20. Currently have the 10GB/line but we rarely go over 1 because of the free streaming.

Sorry is this meant to be cheap? I'm in the UK, I pay £17/month for 12GB of 4G data, unlimited texts, and 200 minutes, on a 12-month sim-only contract. I could pay £20 for unlimited data but I wouldn't use it.
