So, given that there are nefarious countries and organisations working to intercept the world's sub-marine communication cables, is potential data theft via pathways to satellites a thing?

😁 Do we need to arm every satellite to fend off attackers (US approach), have robotic hand's to wave a pointed finger menacingly (AUS approach), look the other way (CHE approach), or complain that the attacking satellites are made by only one manufacturer and is anti-competitive (EU approach)? 😁
The concern is legit!

I was on the Satellite beta with T-Mobile, but it never really kicked in for me. I’ll be interested to hear how this works out for folks.

I tried the beta a few times out in the desert when backpacking over the summer.. It kinda worked, but had a hard time staying connected and iMessages kept failing. It was in intervals, too..work for 10 min or so, then wouldn't work at all again for 10-15 mins, then work again for another 10....and it chewed through battery like none other.

I'm not personally going to add it to my t-mobile plan and I would have to change from older Magenta plan. I spend quite a bit of time away from cell service, but it doesn't seem ready yet,

I’ll likely add it when I go on trips to remote areas and then drop it when back home. If there is a high signup/drop fee, I’ll skip it altogether.

I had the beta and … was on a pelagic boat trip and I could not get it to work (maybe the boat was moving too fast?)… but in all fairness, I couldn’t get the Apple SOS Satellite to work either. Lol

i had it for beta and paid 1 month for it with my old plan. It worked good for me, given my coverage is weak area at my house. Not sure sure if its worth $10/line IMO.

I was told I needed to switch to a newer plan that isn't tax inclusive or w/e in order to have this, but with them adding more and more features like this, it might be worth it.
This is incorrect. I’m on Go5G plus and even people with Magenta and One plans have it. It’s an add on that appears in T-life under each phone line.

So you're stranded with no service and the first thing that comes to mind is, let me scroll Twitter via satellite? LOL.

Honestly, Apple's SOS satellite features are enough for me. As long as I can iMessage, I'm good.
I live in a part of town near a state park and service for all carriers is terrible. T satellite has really been a game changer because I now have service and can do basic things when I’m in the stretch of no service. It doesn’t have to be just for stranded or off the grid. The major difference compared to Apple’s satellite service is I don’t have to go and check for service. It’s automatically beam down to me like a 5G signal.

I'm on a business plan, that might be the issue. But at any rate it's next to impossible to get a decent phone rep, so it's a process, which I don't currently have the bandwidth for :D

I was on the beta. Used it to compare service at places I go.

Overall it's much better cellular service for me. Their building penetration is a lot better for my 20 or so most common places

I used the beta in Colorado in the mountains. I was several miles up a mountain and it flipped a lot back to unusable cell service. I wish it had a time component where if it detects under a certain speed for so much time that it flips supported items to satellite anyways.

I was using Apple's satellite with Verizon as well. The seamless tmobile connection worked better. it has to be primary service to flip to their satellite

overall for me, the satellite service doesn't have to be perfect, moving to them gave me a better experience in total.

Yes, it's more expensive but I get more of what I pay for

Just because you don't have internet access to your phone in some spots does not qualify a person as stranded LOL.

The biggest use case is simply you get to utilize Starlink in areas without service. It doesn't have to be some life and death situation. Maybe someone would like to access Apple Music while say camping somewhere remote or use maps, weather app....etc.

You make great points, but surely someone would actually just download the music to their device before a camping trip, right? 😂

Intriguing... but will I be able to get it on my $100/month for 4 lines Essentials plan? My gut tells me no.

Same plan and thought here.

Just added it to my line for $10. Seems to be compatible with the Essentials 4 Line plan.

Now to go get lost in the woods to test it out. Or, on the beaches of Lake Michigan where I normally drop service.

will this work if I'm sitting in a window seat on a plane?
One time, it worked for just a few minutes for me on one flight with a window seat. Got a few messages come in. So, it technically probably can. But it likely won't. Also depends on the plane.

The Starlink Roam plan only works up to 12 nautical miles from the coast. I'm guessing that they matched that plan's "Coastal Coverage". There is a more expensive Starlink plan that covers roaming in the ocean out past 12 miles from the coast. But I've never seen any mention of that upgrade option with the T-Satellite.
