here's what i thought:

1. we'll never know the truth

2. who cares - it's not to sound callous, but unfortuantely, people try to commit suicide every single day. it's sad. just because this guy is a 'superstar', it makes the news. what about the 'normal' people who try this? they need help and there are far more of them than just one football player (and one who hasn't done much the last 2 years). don't get me wrong, i recognize he's a talent, but enough is enough. just shut up and play.

3. whether or not it's true, TO is going to get himself into a position where other teams won't want him. what a headcase. it's sad, but even if it's not true, talk about a distraction for the team.

i know i may get slammed for some of my comments, but their mine :)

Cheers,
Keebler

Phew, I didn't know what to expect from this thread. To me, T.O. = Toronto, Ontario (aka: the t-dot)

Didn't know how a city could commit suicide.

Good luck to him. I have never heard many good things about him, but I don't want him to die......not unless he starts murdering innocent people or something.

One thing to learn from this; wealth, fame and talent won't bring you happiness. For someone to attempt suicide, they must be really sad and felt hopeless.

This may sound harsh but, why does this clown continue to receive attention? Just another chapter in his own little world. He represents what is wrong with Professional sports today. These people have no idea what it is like to survive in the real world of daily living. These prima donnas think the world should bow down to them. I am sick of Professional sports (Football, Baseball and Basketball) because of them. Where are the sports figures I grew up admiring?
The guys who played in the late 60's and 70's, before money became the only issue. They played the game because they wanted to, not because of some over-the-top contract. Just my thoughts.

thats damn insensative, I hate pro sports but the guy tried to take his own life, no matter how famous strong or in the limelight anyone is such a thing is a tragidy whatever the situation, behind his fame he's still a person and that person was in so much pain he saw it prefrable for it to end.

Even if bill gates himself was the person in question I'd still make this post.

Well... as much as I hate Terrell Owens, it saddens me that he'd try to kill himself. It's true that money doesn't buy happiness, but it should at least get you closer to it than not having money.

At the same time, it pisses me off to think of how much attention he'll receive because of this. He's dug his own hole, as far as I am concerned... he's always been the attention whore and it's caused someone with a great athletic talent to become a joke.

What'll happen next is that Jerry Jones won't play him any more. If TO was looking for a way to end his career for good, he may have found it.

But he wasn't always an attention-whore... His first couple of years in the league when he had Jerry Rice, Steve Young and Bryant Young to look up to and have sit on him if he went OTT, he was quite attention-shy. Back then, guys like Skip Bayless who now loathe him, actually liked him and their annoyance came from not getting sound-bites. Something, fame/money/agents, influenced him for the worse.

Jerry Jones wants a championship. He'll play him regardless since TO is a playmaker and makes a difference on the field. If he was worred about him being a troublemaker, he wouldn't have signed him over the summer.

The suspension was his own damn fault.

I don't necessarily believe that. The Eagles wanted all of the performance he gave them, they even prepared for some of the attitude (based on Andy Reid offering to wear tights if he got 15 tds).

So then they get all mad about his attitude, it came as a whole package, it was their job to do that research and understand him as a player ... but they failed to do that and got upset.

I really don't think TO did more than be himself, and he didn't radically change when he got to philly ... thats how he is.

Why don't I feel bad...I mean I have no money with bills to pay yet I havent OD ummmm...This dude is rich and complaining about this and that..whatever.

I hope he has a speedy recovery so the Cowboys can not make the playoffs fair with people talking about "If TO was there"

Bless

If I were rich no amount of spending would solve the problems I currently face.

I cant understand how you can just say people who are financially wealthy don't deseve the basic amount of respect of a little empathy.

mmm. a little extra money would certainly help some of my problems.
and the extra cash would help smooth over some other problems.

and yes, rich people deserve our empathy too. :)

Terrell Owens is disputing the claim made by Dallas police that he attempted to kill himself and will hold a press conference at some point Wednesday. Owens was hospitalized Tuesday evening after overdosing on pain medication for his broken finger. A police report said Owens was asked by rescue workers "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, 'Yes.'" The Dallas police report said the Owens told his friend/publicist "that he was depressed." Ex-Cowboy and friend Michael Irvin told ESPN that Owens "absolutely denies" trying to commit suicide and was taken to the hospital after taking his medication and health supplements at the same time. Head coach Bill Parcells had no information to pass along during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.

and

A smiling Terrell Owens said Wednesday afternoon from the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters that reports of him being depressed and suicidal were overblown and that he hopes to play for the team in Week 4. Owens was hospitalized Tuesday evening after overdosing on pain medication for his broken finger; Owens said he mixed hydrocodone pain-killing medication with his supplements and became incoherent. At that point, his publicist phoned 911 Tuesday evening. After being discharged from a local hospital Wednesday morning, Owens came to the practice facility and caught passes from Drew Bledsoe before speaking with the media. "I feel very capable of going out there and playing on Sunday," Owens said Wednesday. T.O. added that he did not take 35 pain medication pills ("I wouldn't be here," he said) and that his stomach was not pumped.
From my fantasy thing on CBS Sportsline

If I were the Cowboys, I'd still make him undergo a psychiatric exam before he played again. He can say whatever the hell he wants, but to me it seems like all of this deinal and the denial by his spokeswoman seems to be a cover-up. I think he may have actually tried to commit suicide, regardless of what he's saying.

Possibly because unless you follow American football, you have no idea what kind of a jackass Terrell Owens has been in recent years. He's been described as a cancer on several teams but because he has the talent, he gets away with it. I suspect that's why there's a heck of a lot less sympathy and empathy out there than there would be for most other people (wealthy or not)

T.O can't do anything right.
Not even suicide.
I would be so embarrassed if I tried to kill myself, failed, and then required to give a public press release. Sucks to be him.

Or are we (the media) truly blowing this whole story out of proportion?

Sounds like it. A hospital wouldn't release an attempted suicide patient the same day. From the sounds of it, he dumped the pills from the bottle into a drawer, got messed up from taking three or four Vicodin, then his publicist saw him in a stupor and asked if he "emptied the bottle" to which he replied "yes". So it got phoned in as a suicide attempt. Oops.

Exactly,, what hospital in todays society would let him leave the parking lot without some kind of examination or physchiatric (sp?) care. No way would they let him out that quickly, they would be liable if he diecided to do it again. Also, if he really had his stuomach pumped, and ingested 35 pills, would he be coherent enough to have a public media conference? If he didn't give that conference today, I think people would have something to worry about.

i think the Cowboys needs to drop T.O. He's a great player but he's causing way too much drama/publicity thats not benefitting the team. they're paying him how much and he's acting out? its like he's turning into a micheal jackson....but not as weird.
