My default add-ons are BluHell, NoScript and Greasemonkey - I added uMatrix in for parity on testing.
Tried mixing memory cache settings but no real difference - oh well, it's not the first time I've seen identical set ups having wildly different results.

I wouldn't use NoScript together with uMatrix if you did that. They duplicate features.

But yeah, I hear you. I've seen variations as well on duplicate setups.

There are outside factors that could also influence that. I think internet connection could also play a role – mine is 50Mbps if it makes any difference. Also, as I've mentioned several times, I sort of blocked everything using uMatrix including the macrumors scrips, I only added what was necessary to load the page correctly.

If you swap your current prefs file with the one you had originally and do the times again, you'll have a true indication regardless of your download speed.

It's a new system install so I didn't have any preferences on it before. I just added the user.js file which is all of eyoungren's tweaks plus bluhell and umatrix. That seems to work okay, it was REALLY slow before any of the tweaks, and still slower than it is now with AdBlock Plus.

If you moved the current prefs file, TFF would write a new default one at launch. I get a difference of around 4 seconds between a default prefs and a tweaked one.

Alright, I removed the prefs.js and user.js files but left uMatrix and BlueHell as it was.

Without tweaks but with add-ons: iBook G4 1.07 1.25GB
TFF dock to macrumors home = 18.38
TFF reload macrumors home = 11.15

For comparison, I wondered what my iBook G3 600Mhz 640MB would score
WITH tweaks and add-ons (essentially replicated to my G4 iBook except with the G3 version of TFF)
TFF dock to macrumors home = 26.95
TFF reload macrumors home = 7.16

So it's interesting the that G3 iBook with tweaks beats the G4 without on reloads – startup will always be slow since it's a G3 and it takes a while to think but once in memory, they do seem to make a big difference.

Looks like your speed increase then is the same as mine but your absolute speed is by virtue of your 50Mb line (mine is 5 on a good day).

The G3 result is intriguing but I think there's so many quirks like that with these old machines.

Yes it seems like that's what it comes down to, just connection speed. Did you get that much of a difference in reload times though? My reloads without tweaks were way higher than 4 seconds – taking the 4.09 score with tweaks it's 7 seconds slower!

The reload is roughly 10 secs quicker - I think the variations we'll see are just with uMatrix and what it does and doesn't cut out.

Okay that seems normal then. This has been interesting as I assumed the tweaks and add-ons sped things up but never realized how much of a difference they made! It's nice to have a number we can point to.

I will just say again that if you have a slower connection then my bias towards no caching in my tweaks probably works against you. In this case it would probably be better to activate cache (disk or ram, depending on whatever you have most to give).

Every situation is different.
