Apple will have nothing to fear once they drop the F-bomb (iWatch) on the world. They set the standard on smartphones and they'll do the same for smart watches.

I doubt it. I think the Apple watch will do well but nut be too the watch industry as the iPhone was to mobile

And yet people 'throw away' their $1000 iPhone 'each and every year'.

_____________

Footnotes

ie: sell for up to half of original cost

ie: every two or three years

So, your position is that having the Apple Watch be disposable (or traded in for the raw materials) after two or three years wouldn't be any kind of hindrance on its success, since it hasn't hurt the iPhone. Those who say they won't spend X dollars on an Apple Watch are just outliers.

Watches aren't subsidized to "throw away"

LOL @ buying an Apple watch this year with 1 day battery, sorry, I don't want a piece of dead plastic on my wrist by 8pm

Maybe next year

No, my position is as stated, that people would sell them for up to half of original cost.

You're the one paying your own subsidy.

Spoiler alert: your monthly plan price is the same regardless if I'm using an iPhone 6+ or a cheap budget android

You're correct - - you get a better phone, but you're still the one paying for your subsidy.

The subsidy being that if you want to spend $500 less on the iPhone you're locked in for two years, 99% of consumers are happy with the same phone for two years so it's not big deal for them

But the idea of comparing that to selling your Apple watch every year is a laughable stretch by any means. It's not something people will do.

Apple Watch users will not be selling their device "every year". My prediction above was every two or three years, just like they do with their iPhones.

I see little significant difference between buying a $1000 iPhone and a $349 Apple Watch whenever the feature set has been advanced enough to entice buyers to upgrade (just like all consumer electronics). In fact, the Apple Watch currently has a big advantage - - no expensive cellular plan.

Hardly anyone is buying a $1000 128GB iPhone. The Apple watch value will likely plummet far more then any cellphone every year, making it a tough sell in the aftermarket

competition is good, i look forward to the tech war with smart watches, anything to bling up your day?? ha

I have waited all 2014 since I read the Edy comments, 1 day after he said it.

Now 2014 is gone and I'm totally offended on how Edy and Tim mislead us. They have showed nothing even close to the iPhone alone Lets not talk about the Mac or the iPad.

iWatch: its an expensive Google Glass, they will not sell that much. You have to charge 1 per day until a few years in the future when the magic battery is discovered. A Gold Watch that is obsolete after 2 years?

Apple Pay: only works in US. So, the rest of the world is not affected. And remember, the rest of the world is a really big deal. You could sell the iPhone, the Mac and the iPad in the rest of the world that it changed peoples life. Apple Pay will not change people lives, they go after profit and have never ever worked for Apple.

Edy and Tim, you both disappointed the world in a big way with your bluffing. Please don't bluff anymore, just show us the product!!!

This suggests that something already announced in 2014 is the "something", and that you simply haven't grasped its significance.

Maybe he meant the Apple Watch, but I think it's more likely that he meant Apple Pay (of which the Apple Watch, the iPhone, the iPad, and eventually the Mac are part).

Since you are still waiting, I'm guessing you don't see the significance of Apple Pay. Yes, it's not a mature product so far. But Apple has a long-term strategy. If you judged the significance of the iPhone or iPad by how much impact they had in just a few months after being revealed, you'd have said "Still waiting..." about them, too.
