Take Screenshot

I want to select area, take screenshot and save it. I did Shift-Command-3 (also 4) selected area released the mouse button but nothing happens.

Saw several screenshot apps but don't know which one will work for me.

Check in System Preferences – Keyboard – Shortcuts – Screen Shots if you have the shortcuts enabled.

@bogdanw is right. You can also use the Screenshot app that comes with the system. Find it in LaunchPad or your Applications > Utilities folder.
