Can I easily buy a months airtime on a sim?....3gb max would be fine, is this possible?

Or if no how easy is free wifi in NYC?...coffeshops etc?

I don't know about getting a monthly data sim. I think it's not as available as it is in the EU.

Starbucks has free wifi in all of their locations now. Chances are you can find one wherever you are. (Especially in NYC)

Not a problem. I have just got back from Washington DC and bought a AT&T micro sim for $15 and signed up for the $25 months usage using the hotels address and my UK visa card. No problems and the speed was also very good.

I used 900 megs in the 10 days I was there. I intend to use the same sim next year in Florida.

Ohhh, you are the first person reporting success with a UK visa i think!

To the op, if your CC doesn't work, prepaid visas are easy to find to buy in the states and that will work. Just buy the sim and sign up, then cancel it so they don't try to renew it in 30 days.
