taking off the leather strap and using another?

Looks like it's 22mm. You could get away with 20mm, but there will be 1mm of play on each side.

It's probably 22. 20 gives too much room to slide around. 24 might *just* fit.

Can you measure the inside of the u shaped connector. I'd be interested in putting a 3rd party link on and they come in 20, 22, 24 and I wouldn't want it to not fit because it was too wide.

22 is the widest you can go. The inside of the U is about 26 mm wide, but it starts to curve at about 11mm from center.

I found this and would love to do a cheaper link than Apple's and with a different style. This one is a 24 polished 316L SS but I'm sure they have it in 22. I also wouldn't want it too narrow for the connector where it would slide back and forth. I'm hoping even with the curving it could still fit.
