I currently have a D60 and my primary lens is a Tamron 28-300mm which I do like. I also have the Nikon kit 18-55mm VR lens which I rarely use. I noticed that the Tamron 18-270 has started to ship and I’ve been tempted by it as a replacement. I thought that I had read somewhere that since the 28-300mm isn’t really designed for the D60 I’m not getting the full 300mm zoom; It had something to do with the smaller sensor size and it being a Di lens, not Di-II – I honestly don’t fully understand all of that so that’s part of the confusion.

With the new 18-270mm being available and more designed for smaller sensor cameras would I be benefiting at all by getting the new lens? To me a big bonus is having one lens that replaces my 2 current ones, and if I’m not sacrificing the zoom its definitely worth it (I’d think)>.

    Hopefully I didn’t confuse anyone..

With the range of 18-270 you realize image quality is gonna be quite poor?

With that aside. If I were you I'd go for the 18-270 over something like the 28mm version.
Reason is, on a crop body 18 is gonna give you some what of a wide angle lens. This also depends on what you shoot...?

Quite poorer compared to what? I already have the 28-300 and I'm pleased with the image quality that it produces. Would it be noticeably different?

    To be honest...

If you already have the 18-55 and 28-300 why are you interested in the 18-270.

If you wanna invest in new lenses perhaps an ultra wide? Or Macro? or get a flash?

What kinda photography are you into? :)

The main reason is just to consolidate. I barely ever carry the 18-55 with me, so having the 18-270 would allow me to always have a true "all in one" with m and maximize the range I have.

Most of my pictures are at sporting events so its nice to have a wider range.. the wide angle would help with some complete stadium shots and the zoom would help close in on the field. (the 300mm works nicely for that now, I don't think I'd notice much difference between 300mm and 270mm (I believe it translates to something like 450mm vs 418mm)
