My post was a little joke…

Sorry I didn't get it.

The US isn’t much better unless it’s changed in the last 5 years, with all those checks (nobody in here in Belgium has written one of those since the late 80’s) and that ridiculous manual signing after paying with a credit card.

It has changed a lot. Some years I don't write any checks at all. Credit card signing went away with credit card chips.

Germany will still be behind most African countries when it comes to card acceptance. Idk why the people there are so behind with their Girocard and cash payment fetish.
I hope they will pass an European law similar to Italy soon, which forces everyone to accept card payment.
Depends where you live. Covid pushed contactless payment a lot a few years ago so in my city you can pay a Brezel für 99 Cents with Apple Pay. But yeah there are businesses where you know they don't want it becuase they evade taxes. Especially Kebap places or some small shady shops have signs with "cash only" and you know you won't even get a receipt there.

I live in CH, but am frequently in near-border cities like Singen, Konstanz or Lörrach and often - not only Kebab - it is either not accepted or only Girocard. Also in stores where I don’t want to insinuate they want to evade taxes, like book stores.
Small stores often complain that people are shifting to chains like Amazon, Thalia, MediaMarkt and so on - But what else do they expect?

They often argued with (in my opinion rather low) credit card fees are too high.
They are completely right, stuff like the repeated counting of the cash register due to incorrect bookings or similar, the drive to the bank, the fee for the deposit, risk of getting robbed or stolen by employees etc. pp. aren’t any cost at all…💁🏻‍♂️ Idk, imho they either accept CC or should go out of business

I don't know if you have the same problem but around here small shops sometimes didn't accept card payments not because of taxes but because the way card fees were designed it was quite unprofitable in small payments.
So they either didn't accept card payments or placed minimum amount sings.
This mostly happened with coffee, pastry or similar shops.
Espresso here is a national institution and everyone has several a day and they usually cost something around one euro. Paying fees on that type of transactions eats the margins quickly.

No idea where you people live in Germany but I haven‘t used cash since Covid lockdown. Like I legit run around with not a single Euro in my pocket, it‘s all Apple Pay (Girocard, Mastercard and American Express).

The only issues I have is with AmEx acceptance, literally every shop I bought something at accepted at the very least Mastercard or Girocard. Even small bakeries, the dingiest car parking lot and literally every single Kebab shop I ever tried.
