Google give me thousand of answers that iPhone 8 supports it. But the results are all before the official release.

So they writing about that iPhone 8 but they are meaning the iPhone X.

Then you need to learn how to use Google. I Googled the query [iphone "tap to wake"] and used the Tools option to narrow down the search to results from the past month and all the posts are only in regards to the iPhone X, no mention of any other iPhones.
