i have a g4 ibook, i have used target disk mode with my g5 tower before with success. g

However i just tried to use it with a pc, and the drive doesnt come up in my computer on the pc. Has anyone had any success using target disk mode with a windows system?

ok, thanks! Is that becuase my pc cant read the mac journaled formating? or something else..

To the best of my knowledge, it's a firmware thing first and foremost but the drive formatting wouldn't help.

This isn't true. You *can* connect a mac to a wintel machine via target disk mode. The Windows machine should detect it as a mass storage device although to mount the drive and access the information you have to use a program like MacDrive 6.

I had to use this method to get the data off my iBook which had messed its OS X up before I could wipe it and do a clean install.

Then it's purely a driver (or format reading) thing. Anyway, I'd still recommend connecting them though the suggestion I posted above. Much safer that way and you don't need any extra drivers.
