Target Disk Mode vs Time Machine

On 10.11, does Migration via Target Disk mode work any better (more complete) than using a TM Backup in Migration? Does Target mode transfer any of the Cache files that TM doesn't back up for instance? I'm guessing there is probably no difference.

I have not done it in El Capitan, but I have done both in Mavericks and Yosemite and there was zero difference.
