Target Display Mode for MBP?

Any chance of a Target Display Mode as seen in the new iMac for the MBP? Is this a hardware or software thing?

Hardware. Maybe on the next MBP. Not possible on current ones.

It allows you to use the 28" iMac as a display. In other words, you could hook up a blu-ray player to the iMac and watch the movie.

Depends. If you have a player with a DisplayPort output then no, otherwise yes.

What is the technical limitation on the current MBPs that means this isn't possible?

Or is it just a case of Apple haven't enabled it in the software because they want to sell more ACDs?

I would expect the new 27" iMacs have a bidirectional display port while the others have only an output port. Most likely you need new hardware.
