Target Display Mode on a Late 2009 iMac

I have a Late 2009 iMac and a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro. I've recently been told that my iMac doesn't support Target Display Mode. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how I could get Target Display Mode to work between my two computers?

2009 imac supports target display.
