I understand the desire for something unique. My first tat was not that "original", a line and Leo symbol on my left thigh. My second is a tribal design on my left pec.

It is the left pec design that I want as my very personal piece. I want to add to that, going down my bicep. The elements I want are the Native American hand print ("let my mark stand for all time"), some sort of "bear" motif, and "525,600 minutes" motif. For me these define me at this moment in time.

To have some balance, I want something on my right pec/bicep with the theme of "truth, freedom, and above all love".

Now to find an artist. :D

If you really want something unique, draw it yourself. I'm not that great of an artist, but was able to come up with this:

The message really does mean something important to me. And the armband goes all the way around (not the sissy way of making it look like it does) In case you're wondering, needles in your armpit hurts like a m0f0 and of course, the most intricate kanji had to go there

ugh, don't put Che Guevara on your body! :p

I agree that tattoos should be personal, not generic. Mine was the tattoo artist's adaptation of a picture from a book. Now where am I gonna find a phoenix...

What's wrong with Che? He's on my left bum-cheek next to Roy Orbison. :p

phoenix? book? You don't have Harry Potter tattoos, do you?

That first tattoo design in the row of four is pretty similar to a symbol used by an extremist hate group. I would be wary of using that one. That's the one thing I get nervous about when looking for tattoos. Being that I am of Norwegian heritage, I have a fondness for many of the viking symbols and the like but so many of them have been co-opted by hate groups that I can't use them (well, I can but it's not worth all the problems it will cause). I made up this pretty cool circle containing all of the runes but being that 3 of them are hate group symbols, I don't think I will get it tattooed on me. So I am trying to find something else that I won't look at in 5 years and ask,"what the hell was I thinking." My right arm is looking awfully plain. It's needs some color.

Ok, my friend said that one looked similar to the Norwegian Nazi sign. Could you tell me something about the hate group its associated with? I did a search and all that i found was that is has something to do with buddist healing.... or something. But yeah.... i wouldn't want to get some hate symbol tattooed on me..... can't see that turning out good

All I could really dig up was the little bit they had written at the anti-defamation league website.

Yeah but what if later on in life you get bored with them? Or you decide you dont want them no more? The hassle of having them removed??

I know I am bringing an old thread alive, but I didn't want to start a new tattoo thread when there was already one, and I didn't see anymore recent ones. The idea was that I am planning on getting a couple of tattoos. These are still a while off, and yes very very nerdy but I wanted to know what people thought.

Here is a link to the Apple tattoo that I want to get:

I'm trying to decide on a tattoo.... its so hard. I want it to express something that i feel is true, and says something about me.

So far i've decided i want it to be:
1. political
2. left wing
3. Popular front
4. anti-corporation

That's more or less what I wanted, so I got a red star.

It's a bit less confrontational than a hammer and sickle as strictly speaking it's a socialist, rather than a Communist, symbol. It looks great - I'm really pleased with it.

There's always the Venezulean national flag or maybe a picture of Chavez? ;) That sure says socalism. ehhe (kidding)
