I can't believe that I had to pay nearly $30 more in sales tax because I purchased my iPhone at a Apple store and not AT&T. According to the employees at the Apple Store in Brea, CA people who are buying their iPhone in Apple Stores have to pay sales tax on the full price of the phone (599/699) no matter what price they paid!! Yet if you go to AT&T you only pay tax on the price of the sale.

I have never heard something so absurd, sales tax is tax on the price of the sale, not some price they decide the product is worth!!!

I wish I would have known this before I went to an Apple Store instead of AT&T.....

that is kind of odd

If you bought it from the AT&T store you would still be paying the same amount in tax. Trust me on this because I know!

Oh so people at AT&T paid the same price? I was just mad because he told me that people who purchased at the Apple Store paid full tax, if everyone paid the same price than I wouldn't be mad.

I got mine at AT&T and they did the tax based off of the subsidized price (299)

We've been through this with the last iPhone. I beleive it boiled down to some states require tax on full price while other states its only on actual price paid. Or you could just move here and pay no sales tax.

luckily for you, AT&T is a "wireless" company, thus not having a true physical presence, hence not having to follow the CA tax laws. (super heavy sarcasm inserted)

I live in NC and the taxes in CA are CRAZY!!! For a state government who is always on television complaining about not having money, I’m surprised they don’t considering they tax the crap out of everything! Geez!

By here, I'm assuming your location of DELAWARE. No thanks. Michigan is bad enough, but to trade it for no taxes but live in Delaware is the worst idea I've ever heard ;) Just messing with you. Isn't Mass. the same way?

thread

I started the previous thread on this, but I think the same holds true.

If one bought in CA, at ATT, apple or online, I THINK that all those entities HAVE to charge the tax on the full retail price, if purchased locally, or shipped to a CA address?

Just thank your government for that. If you are complaining now just wait. Change you can believe in!

It's not limited to Apple stores, you'll be charged the same additional sales tax from AT&T stores.
