I just pulled out my receipt from my 3g purchase and i was only charged 7% (FL) on the purchase price of 199.99, the total was something like 212 total. Side note I find it comical that CA has such astounding sales tax policies yet they still cry broke all the time.

I am pretty sure here in lovely wisconsin we only pay on what we pay. 5.5% on the $299. I am expecting the total to run around $350 with taxes and connection fee on the new line im adding.

I doubt Ill be able to waive the fee at Radio Shack.

This is from the Tax section on the Apple website:

"In accordance with state and local law, your Apple Online Store purchases will be taxed using the applicable sales tax or seller’s use tax rate for your shipping address. The tax listed during checkout is only an estimate. In California, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of the iPhone."

Because California is huge state and also spend more money on road repairs that most states.

But it is stupid each state has their own tax law. Makes you wonder if we really are the "United" States of America.

Some things balance out. California may tax on the original price of the iPhone, but the state does not tax on anything considered a service including digital distribution. Everything you buy over iTunes in California is untaxed. That isn't to say you'll spend the $400 on iTunes to make up the difference, but it's the little things that'll help even it out.

Ouch for those who pay taxes on the full price. NH sounds like the best plan, though you will probably use that in gas to get there.

And Rhode Island is the tiniest states with one of the most corrupt, dysfunctional governments in the 'Union' (if you're from RI, you'll get the pun). Lucky me, I get to pay taxes on the full price of the 4.

I can't stand our General Assembly; I really want to get out of here. Too bad the wife and kids love it here.

California Buyers be prepared to pay full tax on the full $600 (or whichever one you get).

Its always been that way here in Cali. :(

that is ridiculous! Thats around $60!!!! i dont remember it being like that when I got my 3G, and I bought the 16gb when it came out at the apple store!

We don't seem to be very "United", here in the United States concerning equal taxing.

So what state is the cheapest place tax wise, to buy an new iPhone 4 then?
