While first being very sceptical, I now feel like these spots and this strategy is actually pretty smart: these spots are not meant to persuade people who are on Mac Rumors or any other Apple forums to jump into an Apple Music subscription. These people like us here either already have Apple Music or they don't for a very good reason. At least we already know about it and have probably decided why it's good for us or not.

But using somebody extremely popular in music and pop culture like Taylor Swift as a spokesperson with an enormous fan base and releasing the spots foremost to them, like a "personal" social media messages instead of airing them on tv is both: very inexpensive and perfectly reaching target groups who may not have ever thought about getting an Apple Music subscription before – though being perfectly open to it, once their "hero" suggests to do so. Esp. since there is nothing to lose with a low entry barrier: it's for free for 3 months either way.

So, in the end I find these spots extremely smart and Apple seems to finally have understood social media marketing, after exploring these channels very cautiously for the recent years.

Being skinny ≠ underfed.

You're right, but we know a lot of young women suffer from anorexia/bulimia so that's something to consider. Probably not with Taylor, but we often don't find out until something bad happens or in a celebrity's autobiography if they chose to disclose it.

i like her, but this ad is bad. it was awkward to watch.

the first one would have been just as bad, but when she fell it was at least funny. sadly nothing happened this time.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the number of people who truly believe Taylor Swift is "self-made". While I don't deny that she at least has the talent required to sing well and write breakup songs, to say that she is by any means "self-made" is utter denial of the colossal machine that has driven her career every step of the way. She is purposefully poised and solidly propped up by an industry who uses her to scrape together every last cent of the money that can still be made from pop music post Britney Spears. Things become a little easier to achieve when you've got hundreds of people behind the scenes "filling in the gaps" for you. Not to mention writing your songs (which she no longer handles herself).

Ha! Strip away the air brushing in the photos, the filter effects in the video software, strip away the ton of makeup so you can the what she really looks like and you might think differently.
I'll take her wearing a trash bag over you on your best day.

And yet there she is, and here we are-- so whether "self-made" means tuning your own guitar and playing coffee shops for years, or harnessing the music machine, she's done reasonably well for herself and isn't a complete musical horror show.

Taylor Swift is awesome. She makes fun music.

However, I can understand her problem with relationships. It looks like it took her a long time to apply lipstick despite fact she started video with lipstick on. Who has time to wait for that?

This community is pretty known for being toxic and misogynistic.
For certain people every community is toxic and misogynistic. But despite their best efforts humor survives.

Seriously she is genuinely objectively beautiful. Make up no make up. There are always haters. Maybe she can take solace by sleeping on her mountain sized pile of cash.

I don't think anyone has said she was entirely self made. But unless her documented biography is BS, then I'd say she's probably grafted more than most in the industry.

And as far as I know, by the time she was a successful country star, the industry most likely wanted her to carry on being a country star, but she was instrumental in her change of direction into pop. That she undoubtedly has a massive team behind her now, shouldn't detract from any graft put in earlier in her career, or her on contributions now.

So what if she co-writes stuff? Are you going to belittle the songwriting of Lennon, because he co-wrote so much with McCartney? Or is that different because they're not female pop stars?

How do I get the kind of self-esteem it takes to say "yes" to an ad treatment that basically goes "a minute of watching you lip-sync"?

She's a famous pop star today, but her music won't last.

Very little music so far from this century will stand the test of time. The period from 1990 to 2016 is the most barren in quality since pop music first appeared.

Sure - that's what everyone over 30 has been saying about the previous decade since the 60s.

Even if that's true, like it or not, 1989 is a phenomenal pop record.

It could be that you've just missed the fact that lip syncing in that style is currently really popular thanks to Lip Sync Battles and also the ones some of the guests on Jimmy Fallon's show do.
