I'm not up for the latest MBP models but expect once they make a true Pro again including 32GB I may upgrade.
Meanwhile I could benefit from a pair of hubs for both home and work, and am considering a 4K or another UW QHD+ display. I don't buy new displays yearly so t would be along the lines of a 34-38" UW or 4K...possibly with TB3/usb-c inputs included.

Are there tb2->TB3 adapters that will work with degraded bandwidth and sans charging so I could, for example, pick up a pair of TB3 hubs and displays and use with my 2015 via TB2 for the time being?

Protocol should be backward compatible but it's a lot of $ without confirmation.

So just to be totally clear, this is expected to work then?

Thread got lost in all the 'new model lovin' threads.
Anyone know for certain?

I don't think anyone can definitively answer that, because there aren't any TB3 hubs/docks available today (to my knowledge) that actually work with the 2016+ MacBook Pros. See more here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-early-thunderbolt-3-devices-updated.2012381/

Also, I think your DP1.3 Display scenario is a wildcard, especially because I doubt TB2 will support that at full 4K/5K resolutions, especially paired with your main display.

Oops - should not have read as DP1.3, good catch.

Either way, I guess the real Q is is TB3 truly backward compatible, including via Apple's 'bi-directional' cable through a hub... Mailed OWC but they seemed to have tier 1 non-technical support and got a more or less scripted response.

Anyone still have a TB2 model BUT also already bought a TB3 newer model + TB3 hub? :)

I don't think a real TB3 hub exists today.
